6 COMMERCIAL maltatoday | SUNDAY • 31 AUGUST 2025 The Phoenicia Malta recognised as a leader in sustainable tourism with GSTC certification THE Phoenicia Malta has re- cently achieved Global Sustain- able Tourism Council (GSTC) certification – an internation- ally recognised hallmark of ex- cellence in sustainable travel and hospitality. This significant achievement reflects the hotel's steadfast commitment to envi- ronmental stewardship, cultur- al preservation and community engagement. As a proud member of The Leading Hotels of the World (LHW), The Phoenicia Mal- ta also stands out as an LHW Sustainability Leader, further reinforcing its position as one of the most responsible and for- ward-thinking luxury hotels in the Mediterranean region. The GSTC certification is the result of years of comprehen- sive sustainability efforts by The Phoenicia Malta, including measures to ensure energy and water efficiency; waste manage- ment and circularity – such as a waste separation programme, reduced single-use plastics and a kitchen policy that prioritis- es composting and food waste minimisation; and community and cultural heritage initiatives through the hotel's support for local artists and artisans, its preservation of treasures on the property and close collaboration with NGOs and heritage organ- isations. "We are deeply honoured to have achieved GSTC certifica- tion," says Robyn Pratt, General Manager of The Phoenicia Mal- ta. "This milestone recognises the dedication of our entire team and our belief that true luxury hospitality must be in harmony with the environment, the com- munity and the cultural fabric of our destination." The Phoenicia Malta contin- ues to elevate its sustainability goals, aligning with global best practices while offering guests an authentic, responsible and unforgettable experience, all the time focused on bringing the rich story of Malta to life for their guests. Bringing together professionals from the real estate, banking, and investment sectors, the half-day workshop is designed to deepen understanding of evolving stand- ards and foster a culture of best practice across industries. Participants will engage in in- depth discussions on a range of topics, including the critical role of international valuation stand- ards, key changes introduced in the 2025 edition of the EVS, legal and regulatory developments at EU level impacting property val- uations, and practical approaches to valuing property for secured lending. The event will feature a keynote presentation by Chris Grzesik, past Chairman of The European Group of Valuers' Associations (TEGOVA), a leading voice in property valuation standards across Europe. Now in its third year, the work- shop continues to build momen- tum as a platform for profes- sional dialogue, skill-sharing, and cross-sector collaboration.
