7 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 14 DECEMBER 2025 COMMERCIAL UPROOTED lil Amir presents a new body of work by artist Robert Zahra, whose practice examines the environments humans inhabit and the ways these spaces ref lect our so- cial, cultural, and ecological relationships. In this exhibi- tion, Zahra responds to the transformed terrains of Gaza - landscapes once defined by daily life but altered by years of destruction and displace- ment. The works draw from the flood of visual documentation shared through social media, where witnesses and independ- ent journalists provide imme- diate accounts from within the conflict. These images have shaped Zahra's process: he em- ploys gestures of wiping, scrap- ing, layering, and obscuring to mirror forms of erasure and endurance. Across the series, marks shift between legibility and disap- pearance. Transparent over- lays, map-like fragments, roots, and window-like shapes inter- rupt and reconfigure the com- positions, suggesting unstable thresholds between past and present, presence and absence. These recurring forms evoke suspended futures, reflecting the uncertainty faced by those displaced from their homes and landscapes. UPROOTED lil Amir invites viewers to consider what re- mains in the aftermath of dev- astation; how memory persists through material traces, and how landscapes continue to speak even when violently al- tered. The exhibition remains open until 21 December. Opening times: Saturday - 5:30 - 8:30pm Sun- day - 9:30am - 12.30pm - Or by appointment Venue: 166, Triq il-Kbira, Ħaż Żabbar.
