Kiosk proposed at Kalanka beach
Applicant declared that the coastal
area where kiosk is being proposed is
private property
A small 10sq.m kiosk is being
proposed at Kalanka tat-Tum-
brell, a rocky cove on the Delima-
ra Peninsula.
The site is currently devoid of
any commercial activity.
The application, submitted by
Alexander Fenech, states that the
land is privately owned and not
government property. It propos-
es a "demountable and tempo-
rary refreshments kiosk" with a
WC for use during the summer
months.
No outside tables, chairs or
sunbeds are being proposed, as is
often the case with seaside kiosks
which have mushroomed on oth-
er beaches over the past decades.
The structure is proposed to be
raised on columns to minimise
contact with the underlying rock
and will reach a height of 2.6 me-
tres.
Kalanka tat-Tumbrell is a rel-
atively secluded inlet, less fre-
quented than nearby St Peter's
Pool, and is mostly visited by lo-
cals, walkers and snorkelers.
Characterised by rugged lime-
stone formations and clear, deep
waters, the cove forms part of the
largely undeveloped Delimara
coastline. Access is via informal
rural tracks rather than a paved
road, contributing to its low vis-
itor numbers.
The structure (area marked in red) is proposed to be raised on columns to minimise contact with the underlying rock and
will reach a height of 2.6 metres
