THE highest number of uncol- lected voting documents is in the 12 District, which compris- es St Paul's Bay, Mellieħa and Mġarr, followed by Gozo, fig- ures obtained by MaltaToday show. The figures show that 4,435 people in the 12 District, or 16.8% of district voters, had not yet collected their voting docu- ment by Friday. In Gozo, 4,441 people or 13.9% of eligible vot- ers on the 13 District, had not collected their voting docu- ment. However, sources close to the two major political parties said the 12 District phenomenon was down to people who rent in the locality and may have shift- ed their address without chang- ing their ID card. In Gozo, the uncollected documents were largely Maltese whose ID card is registered in Gozo but who do not live permanently there. "Most of these 'Gozitan' vot- ers would eventually ask to have the voting document trans- ferred for collection in Malta," a source close to the Nationalist Party told MaltaToday. Voting in the 2026 general election started yesterday with several thousand voters casting their ballot on the day reserved for early voting.
