7 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 20 SEPTEMBER 2026 COMMERCIAL Melita to combine with Epic to create the scale needed for more investment in Malta's digital connectivity MALTESE telecommunication operators Melita Limited ("Mel- ita"), and Epic Communications Limited ("Epic") today announce that they have entered into an agreement to combine their op- erations. The move will bring together two network operators with com- plementary strengths to deliver better services and more choice for customers and support the long-term development of Mal- ta's digital infrastructure. This will deliver enhanced connectivity for consumers, businesses, and the public sector across the country. The transaction will provide the combined business with the nec- essary scale to invest for the long term, in a way that would be out of reach for either company inde- pendently. The demands on tele- coms providers are growing, with customers seeking world-class speeds, resilient infrastructure and advanced cyber security ca- pabilities. This level of sustained investment is only achievable where organisations meet a cer- tain size. A combined business will be better equipped to meet those needs, investing in enhanc- ing network and service quality across both fixed and mobile at a pace and scale that would be more difficult to achieve independently in a small country like Malta. The transaction will enable the com- bined business to compete more effectively within the Maltese market, offering customers better network quality and more choice along a seamless offering across fixed and mobile. Combining the two businesses will support Malta's wider eco- nomic development by enhancing the quality and speed of coverage on fixed and mobile networks. Harald Roesch, CEO, Melita Limited, said: "At the heart of this agreement is investing in the con- nectivity Malta depends on. Malta needs serious, sustained invest- ment in its digital infrastructure, and that is harder for smaller op- erators to fund on their own. Our companies have complementary strengths, with leading networks in fixed and mobile. Bringing them together is about building something better for our custom- ers and for Malta." Pierre-Etienne Cizeron, CEO, Epic, said: "Today marks an im- portant milestone for Malta's dig- ital future. By bringing together the strengths of Epic and Melita, we are creating a stronger provid- er with the scale to invest further in world-class networks, digital services and customer experience. Our shared ambition is simple: to deliver even greater value, choice and connectivity to consumers and businesses across Malta while supporting the country's contin- ued digital development." The proposed combination of the two companies, pursuant to which Melita will acquire 100% of the shares of Epic from Mo- naco Telecom, and the intended future investment remain subject to customary merger control and other regulatory approvals. Until the requisite approvals have been obtained, Melita and Epic will continue to operate and compete independently, with continuity for customers and no impact on employees of either company.
