The report was published yesterday at noon and was received by Jason Azzopardi as he attended a PN parliamentary group seminar meeting. He would later shoot down the independence of the board. The five-member board includes an employee of Nexos Ltd and the spouse of a Labour MP. Elton Taliana will be suspended after an internal report concluded that disciplinary action should be taken. The commissioner was seeking legal advice as to whether criminal action against Police Inspector Elton Taliana should also be taken. The Police Board said Taliana was at fault for failing to speak up immediately when he found out the real culprit in a hold-up. The police had originally arraigned Daryl Luke Borg. In his testimony to the Police Board, Elton Taliana said he hadn't informed the police since, according to the law, he "had to inform the duty magistrate". The police said disciplinary or criminal action will be taken as recommended by the Police Board. "This shortcoming is being considered as a grievous one which could also lead to the dismissal of an official from the Police Corps," the Police Corps said in a statement. It also said the police commissioner had the power to suspend the official from his duties as soon as he was notified of the charges. Elton Taliana, who was a former security officer with former home affairs minister Tonio Borg, started off as a constable, then was promoted to sergeant and then inspector in a span of seven years. MaltaToday reported that he was investigated and mentioned in a number of police reports about alleged criminal activities and also about an arson attack on the residence of Saviour Balzan. In today's edition Saviour Balzan publishes a letter sent to Commissioner of Police Peter Paul Zammit regarding the investigations that were carried out relating to the arson. Balzan indicates that he believes that there was evidence that should have prompted the police to take some form of action and insists that it appears that the attacks were not linked to his writing about racism and migration, but to his political opinions. • See full report Pages 14, 15 • Jason Azzopardi and Manuel Mallia's reactions Page 15 Darryl Luke Borg Elton Taliana Peter Paul Zammit What John Rizzo wrote about Taliana sallo without a call for tenders. It was also reported that the competitors were not given the right to appeal the decision of the St Julian's local council. PN leader Simon Busuttil said he supported the decision taken by the council. The prime minister has been with friends and family on a cruise for the last week. A spokesman from the Office of the Prime Minister was unwilling to confirm or deny that Muscat was on a cruise. The decision not to announce the destination of the PM's holiday parts with protocol and tradition. His predecessors preferred a break in the Dolomites to a trip at sea. Reliable information reveals not only that he used to work as a bouncer with the worst characters one can find the Paceville area, but also indulged in the importation of firearms and involvement in crimes. A particular arson of a residence is mentioned." (Dated 4 March 2011)
