25 Sport maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 16 OCTOBER 2013 MOTORSPORTS ASMK's first Moto-Enduro at Ta' Qali next Sunday ASMK is organising the 1st MotoEnduro of the season Sunday where all ASMK members and others are invited to compete on a special course with man-made and natural obstacles on track which are laid down by personnel who are keen on this type of motorcycle sport. This event will take place at ASMK Tracks at Ta' Qali and registration starts early up to 9.30am and first race is expected to start at 10.00am. Each of the 3 Heats are expected to last 4 minutes and will be controlled by Marshals. Three classes are available for both 2 and 4 stroke bikes of various engine capacities, including a special class for Trials bikes too. The first three winners of each class will be awarded with trophies and all competitors will be challenging the Day's Overall Winner Trophy too. All Heats are run against the clock. This Enduro race usually attracts lots of bikers. Its worth noting that ASMK has already got three competitors running and winning high places in the FMI Regional Championship in Sicily. ASMK wish to inform all members that the ASMK Tracks at Ta' Qali will be closed for all training from next Friday (18 October). from 4.00pm until next Sunday's Enduro Day. More information, photos and results are available in the ASMK Website www. asmk.org.mt PHOTOGRAPHY BY FRANS DEGUARA ON Sunday, 13 October 'Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi' launched the first Moto-Trials event for the National Trials Championship. This multi-section event for Experienced and novice Trials bikers was held at the ASMK premises at Ta' Qali. It lasted about four hours of spectacular driving over natural obstacles. 12 competitors registered for this event. Robert Caruana and Damon Bonello both on Gas Gas 2 stroke bikes made their 1st Sections without any penalty points. Bonello started to build a gap with his fellow riders and Caruana managed to do Clean sections in the 4th and 5th sections. Also, both Gary Debono on a Sherco and Alan Zahra on a Gas Gas made Clean passes in the 4th Section. After the 6th Section Damon Bonello and Alan Zahra both finished with only 23 penalty points but Bonello was declared Class winner according to the rules of the competition in Class A. Robert Caruana finished 3rd in Class with an extra point – a total of 24 points. Class B competitor Rowen Bonello on a Beta was battling with Fredrick Bonello on a Gas Gas. Though Fredrick made his best to make Clean passes it was Rowen who obtained the best results who also displayed great skills in this competition. Rowen and Fredrick were followed by Joseph Scicluna on a Gas Gas who finished in 3rs place. Bonello gained 9 penalty points only on the day to Fredrick's 22 points and to the 28 points Scicluna. MIXED MARTIAL ARTS Team Noel MMA in International MMA Matches BETWEEN the 1st and 4th of November Team Noel will represent Malta in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) Italy . Five athletes from the Ying Yang Club Team Noel will take part in an international competition organised by WTKF in Pisa. In this event there will be matches among various disciplines, like Kickboxing and Kata with 6,000 athletes from around the world that will compete with each other to win the world title in their category and discipline. The athletes Daniel Zammit, Alfred Caruana, Josmar Farrugia, Jonathan Scicluna, under the leadership of coach Charlo Spiteri , who will also participate, will represent Malta and Team Noel in MMA matches. The categories will be between 50kg and 75kg and usually they compete with eight other athletes per category. The MMA is a discipline where two athletes struggle among various techniques such as kickboxing and Ju Jitsu. The match starts in a stand- ing position, and could end up on the ground. This is won both by points and by trying to force the other athlete to give up by applying locks . Charlo Spiteri, who has a Black Belt in Ju Jitsu, is taking care of the training of Team Noel MMA. In 2012 he competed in an similar MMA international competition where his category had eight athletes. Spiteri continued to rise till the finals but the victory was given the Italian counterpart, but still brought back the silver medal . Another activity for Maltese athletes will be that of the Gladiators Night 6 where six Maltese athletes will compete with six from the Netherlands in K1 matches. Daniel 'the Jet' Zahra will have another K1 match with an athlete from Romania.
