43 maltatoday, Sunday, 16 March 2014 Events 'Time to give' – Corporate Social Responsibility Day 2014 Medserv awarded multi-million contract in Cyprus Around 400 employees from seven Maltese companies will be uniting for this year's Corporate Social Re- sponsibility (CSR) Day, held annu- ally on March 19, a public holiday celebrating the feast of St. Joseph, for a day of voluntary work in aid of the community. Farsons Group, Forestals Group, HSBC Malta Foundation, MSV Life, Munich Re, Tumas Group and Vas- sallo Group have registered their participation for this 13th CSR Day edition. Additional support is being provided on the day by Junior Cham- ber International, the Sovereign Mili- tary Order of Malta and Red Cross Malta. "This annual celebration of volun- teering commitment has acquired a special meaning for employees who offer their time and energy, and for companies pooling resources to reach out to the community. While helping caring organisations which offer vital relief and support within our community, CSR day is a fun and rewarding activity for participants as it celebrates the power and team spirit of voluntary work," said HSBC Malta's Doriette Camilleri, on behalf of the CSR Day Organising Commit- tee, formed of representatives from participating companies. Residential homes and caring in- stitutions that will benefit from vol- untary work during CSR day 2014 include: Dar Merħba Bik, Agenzija Sapport's Ċentru Taħriġ, St. Jeanne Antide Foundation, Young People's Unit, Fondazzjoni Wens, St Joseph Home, and Arka Foundation in Gozo. The Eastern Mediterranean be- comes Medserv's main line of in- come as the company announces that its bid for an oil and gas support contract off the coast of Cyprus was successful. Italian oil company Eni have ap- pointed Medserv (Cyprus) Ltd to provide them with operational base support services. The contract is for three years with a possible ex- tension for an additional two years. The value of the contract runs well past the multi-million Euro mark, making the Eastern Mediterranean presently the main source of income for the Medserv Group. "We have focused on our expan- sion and diversification plans over the last 18 months and I am happy to announce that both have been achieved. This was especially im- portant for the company given the difficult situation we faced in the af- termath of the unrest in North Afri- ca," said Anthony Diacono, Medserv Group Chairman. "Whilst North Africa will contin- ue to play an important role, we are happy to announce that our efforts in Cyprus are bearing fruit. Diversi- fication is important to ensure con- tinued success and, at the end of the day, to secure the benefits we prom- ised our shareholders." The contract is set to commence on the 1 June 2014 and will be con- ducted out of the Company's new base in Larnaca. The services pro- vided will include all logistical sup- port to Eni and its service contrac- tors. These will include storage of tubulars, drilling materials, ware- housing, waste management, provi- sion of specialised offshore contain- ers and other ancillary services. In 2013 Medserv obtained a li- cense to operate out of the Port of Larnaca. The company was also able to successfully purchase the shares held by the former minority share- holders in the Cyprus subsidiary, which have now in part been reis- sued to new partners. Medserv now owns 80% of Medserv (Cyprus) Ltd and Caramondiani Group hold the remaining 20% shareholding of the company. The oil & gas industry has recently shown significant attention to the Levantine Basin as it is one of the newest exploration frontiers with huge gas potential. Eni last year signed Exploration and Production Sharing Contracts with the Minis- try of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism of the Republic of Cy- prus for Blocks 2, 3 and 9, located in the Cypriot deep offshore portion of the Levantine basin. Voda- fone employees together with CHIC Med-Aesthetic Clinics and SkyParks employees responded positevly and joined forces to donate blood and help save people's lives. "We wanted to celebrate Valentine's by giving a special gift to the Maltese society at large," said Roberta Pace, Administrator at Vodafone Malta Foundation. "We were positevly im- pressed by the amount of employees who wanted to donate blood. It was an activity that everyone wanted to contribute to and the number of new donors was really positive. We would like to thank the staff at the Nation- al Blood Transfusion Service who helped everyone feel comfortable." SkyParks Business Centre en- thusiastically extended Vodafone's initiative together with CHIC Med- Aesthetic Clinics' cooperation, to all the tenants at SkyParks who warmly took up Vodafone's invitation and contributed towards the cam- paign. "We thought that this year, St. Valentines could be celebrated in a different way, loving someone you wouldn't know by saving their life. We were very pleased with the number of successful donations and newly registered donors. SkyParks Business Centre would like to thank all the people who participated in this initiative especially the National Blood Transfusion Service staff for their hard work and dedication," said a spokesperson from SkyParks Busi- ness Centre. A representative from CHIC Med- Aesthetic Clinics said, "It was a pleasure for CHIC Med-Aesthetic Clinics to support and host such a successful Blood Drive. Our prac- tice commits itself every day to peo- ple's well-being and this was just an- other example. Donors also got the opportunity to give blood within a state-of-the-art and lavish medical centre." Vodafone considers Corporate So- cial Responsibility a key element in what it does. Blood donation goes beyond saving peoples' lives as it bonds people and make those who contribute feel strong, important and part of a human-centred envi- ronment where people care about one another. Vodafone employees share a special gift just in time for Valentine's Following the success of the Econo- mist Oil and Gas and maritime op- portunities conference, PKF will be organising a follow-up conference in Lon- don to be hosted in conjunction with Oil Barrel Ltd., the UK's specialist firm in the sector. The confer- ence will be held in London on the 7 May 2014. The objective of the conference is to bring together senior government repre- sentatives, oil and gas corporate leaders, financiers and global energy experts from around the globe to share their knowledge and experience on oil exploration possibilities. PKF will be inviting interested parties, lo- cal companies providing logistical support to the industry, officials from the Malta Resources Author- ity, Enemalta officials in the oil procurement division and experts from the Continental Shelf Directorate to par- ticipate and address the conference. The central theme of the conference is whether Malta can become an oil and gas hub similar to Cyprus, Sicily, Tuni- sia and Morocco and in the medium term reap dividends from production sharing agreements if and when oil or gas is found in commercial quantities.
