Not only did the VSC win the Team's event, but they also won the Individual Open Category, and were finalists in the Veteran cat- egory. In the Open category, the local club had three of the four semi- finalists, with the final being disputed by Christian Short and Mark Gauci, in a very balanced way, and it was only decided with a sudden-death goal for Short. In the Veteran's category, VSC player Jason Pisani, winner of the English Grand Prix of last year, reached the final with very con- vincing results, but in the final he went down to Italian Mauro Man- ganello 0-3. In the team event, the Valletta Subbuteo Club, composed of Mark Gauci, Jason Pisani, Matt Lampitt, Christian Short and Chris Tho- mas, reached the final with im- pressive identical score : beating all opposition 4 – 0. In the final, they met the Belgian side AS Hen- nuyer, and it was only in the extra time that the local club clinched the title. This has been the 11th International success for the Val- letta Subbuteo Club, in these last 3 years. Late in May, the VSC also took part in the Major of Bologna, with satisfactory success. Samuel Bartolo reached the semi finals of the Open category after beat- ing opposition from Greece, Aus- tria and Germany, but then lost to Greek player Koutis 0 – 1. In the team event, The Valletta Sub- buteo Club, won the group stages, and last 16, only to be defeated in the Quarter finals against Italian club Reggio Emilia, after a draw of 1 – 1, but the Italians had a 1 goal better difference. These two foreign tournaments rounded off a great season for the Valletta Subbuteo Club, after lo- cally, winning the National Clubs League for the 10th time in their history. The VSC also won the Knock Out competition organ- ized by the National Association MTFSA, by beating rivals V. Lions 2 – 0.
