21 Sport maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 15 APRIL 2015 MOTORSPORTS ON Sunday 19 April 2015 'Assoc- jazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi' was committed by the organiztion of two activities involving three AS- MK sections. At the Ta Qali Sports Complex the Association organized the tenth Autocross event sponsored by ASMK-Pasta Poiatti and the 5th Motocross race. At the same time the Association organized the fifth Trials Competition in the quarry of Targiet Ghomor limits of Naxxar. A look at the Trials competition where Class A leader Damon Bonello on a Gas Gas motorcycle continued to dominate this class where once again he finished the winner of the day's top award. Damon is followed by Robert Caruana on another Gas Gas. Gary while third place was won by young Gary Debono on a Sherco motorcycle. Class B was dominated again by Joseph Scicluna on a Gas Gas where he finished the competition and gained a substantial advantage in the Championship scale. Scicluna was followed by his brother Ian on another Gas Gas while Manuel Camilleri closed the day in third place. 36 competitors registered for the racing activities at Ta' Qali for Autocross and Motocross races. In the Autocross Qualifying Heats Christian Galea on his Fiat Ritmo and Philip Vella on his Opel Corsa won and dominated the heats. Thus they secured their place in the prestigeous Class A Final. Andrew Pisani on a Vauxhall Nova, Mal- colm Borg on an Opel Corsa , Vince Farrugia on his Volkswagen Fox and Noel Zammit on a Fiat Punto also qualified for Class A Final race. Right from the Start of the final A Vella and Galea made the best launch to the first corner where Vel- la took the helm of the race followed close by Galea and Zammit. A few seconds after the first Lap Vella and Galea built a gap ahead f the rest and continued struggling between themselves all the way to the finish with a marginal advantage to each another. Soon later the focus was also on Zammit who had pressure from Farrugia and Pisani. Shortly after the third Lap Farrugia over- took Zammit who was also over- taken by Pisani before the end of the sixth lap. The final ended with Vella winning the race ahead of Galea and Farrugia. Fourth placed was won by Pisani followed by Zammit in fifth place. For the Class B final Jonathan Camilleri on an Opel Corsa, Jean Paul Grech on Peugeot 106, Noel Vella on a Ford Escort, Jason Mar- tin on Volkswagen Polo, Guzi Pace on a Ford Escort and Kieth Borg on a Vauxhall Nova all qualified for this class. From the Start Camilleri, Borg and Martin took advantage of the lead but it was Camilleri who took the helm of the race followed by Martin and Borg. The order con- tinued with Vella, Pace and Grech. The attention went on Vella and Pace both on Escorts and Grech who later did an anti-sporting move on Vella who lost control of his car and ended inverted on its side of the track. The referee of the day take disciplinary action and suspending Grech from the remaining laps of this final. Yet Camilleri won Class B race followed by Martin, Borg and Pace. Vella was placed in fifth place. The Start Line of the Autocross Standard Class Final race was com- posed of Johann Vella on Opel Cor- sa and Joseph Vella on a Fiesta both from Gozo and Deane Farrugia on a Citroen AX. From the Start Johann Vella was seen to make a good start and took the lead followed by Vella and Farrugia. Yet Farrugia on his AX was later seen to overtake both Vella's take the lead to the Finish Flag. Joseph Vella and Johann Vella finished in 2nd and 3rd places re- spectively. In the Motocross section who race in two races heats of 20 minutes Clayton Camilleri still defended his lead in the league standings. Clay- ton on KTM won the Class A ahead of Trever Muscat on Honda and Ed- ward Ciantar on his Kawasaki. In Class B where riders of different ag- es compete for 15 minutes was won by Ludvic Muscat on a KTM. Adam Sultana and Julian Abela won Sec- ond and third places respectively. On Sunday 26 April 2015 ASMK will be taking part of the first 'Gozo Sports Weekend program. This is being organised by the Gozo Sports Board. ASMK will be organizing an Enduro event at the Barriera tal- Ghansar at San Lawrenz. This event is made possible with the aid of the Gozo Sports Board and the Minis- try for Gozo who always supports the ASMK events who also contrib- ute in Sports Tourism between the two Islands. This Enduro race in Gozo starts at 10: 00am and is open to Gozo riders too. Meanwhile a look at the Enduro classification we see that after four races James Zahra is leading this Championship with 74 points rid- ing his Yamaha 250cc bike. Mat- thew Gauci on a KTM motorcycle follows with 57 points. Third placed Joseph Scicluna who rides a Honda won 53 points while fourth placed Alex Sant Fornier rides a KTM and won 51 points. Some placings are expected to change during the next race. Enduro at San Lawrenz Gozo this Sunday Julian Abela BOV GFA Player of the Month Thiago Melo dos Santos (Oratory Youths) wins March Award ORATORY Youths' Brazilian for- ward Youths Thiago Melo Dos Santos is the BOV GFA Player of the Month for March 2015. Dos Santos joined Oratory Youths at the beginning of this football season after a long ca- reer in Gozitan Football with Għajnsielem, Xagħra United and Xewkija Tigers. Dos Santos was a main protago- nist in the Youths' reaching the GFA Knockout Final as well as the GFA League. Dos Santos dis- tinguished himself during March with spectacular goals against St Lawrence Spurs and SK Victo- ria Wanderers during the second round of the championship. Dos Santos fine performances al- so extended to the relegation pool where he scored both of his teams' goals in identical 2-1 defeats to St Lawrence and Victoria. Horace Laudi, Bank of Valletta's Gozo Regional Manager presented the BOV GFA Player of the Month trophy for March 2015 to Dos Santos. Fondazzjoni Arka was se- lected by the player to benefit from the donation associated with this award.
