MAY 8 Malta Youth Orchestra in concert A concert by the 'sister ensemble' of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra which is made up of young musicians. Held at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta at 20:00. The target aim of the MYO is to provide an excellent opportunity for budding musicians to gain first-hand experience playing in an orchestra and, more importantly, to participate in the joy of ensemble music-making. Bookings: http://www.ticketline.com. mt. MAY 9 Footprints new album launch Rock band Footprints launch their debut album Backbench at St Joseph's Home Courtyard in Sta Venera at 20:00. Admission to the concert is free, however a donation to 'Ohloq Tbissima' would be requested at the door. All proceeds will help the Kabataan Orchestra of MSSP in the Philippines. Seats are available on a first come fist served basis. MAY 10 Virtuosi for Mama Mother's Day classical concert at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta at 18:00. Featuring Russia's great pianist Mikhail Lidsky – the famous violinist Alessandro Borgomanero - and the Sinfonietta Orchestra from the State of Georgia – will collaborate in a Unique Concert conducted by Malta's Alexei Galea Cavallazzi. PUBLIC LECTURE TODAY The ups and downs of being a translator Public lecture by translator Janet Lloyd at GW 156, University of Malta at 18:00. Lloyd is an eminent translator of French authors (Marcel Detienne, Philippe Descola, etc) and the 1997 recipient of the 'Scott Moncrieff ' prize for French to English translation (in honour of the first English translator of Proust). A reception will be held afterwards at the Petite Auberge de France. The event is organised by the departments of Anthropological Sciences, English, French, Maltese and Translation Studies, Faculty of Arts. SEMINAR MAY 9 Hearing Orpheus Today Musical project consisting of a seminar and a concert at Old Refectory, Archbishop's Curia, Triq San Kalcidonju, Floriana from 09:30.
