54 maltatoday, SUNDAY, 21 JUNE 2015 Sport FOOTBALL ATHLETICS Giuseppe Baresi to visit Malta INTER Club Pupi Zanetti Malta announces with pleasure anoth- er surprise to all Inter support- ers and followers of the football game. Giuseppe Baresi, team cap- tain of F.C. Internazionale for a number of years, will be visiting Malta between the 16 and 20 of July. Beppe Baresi is an iconic fig- ure in the Italian football 's his- tory and was considered as one of the best defenders of his gen- eration. Apart from this, he was also a versatile player and was capable of playing both as a full- back and centreback. Baresi spent most of his ca- reer playing for the nerazzurro team and spent four seasons as a team captain. He joined Inter in 1976 and after honouring the shirt for 16 seasons, he retired in 1992. With Inter, he won dif- ferent honours, mainly two Se- rie A titles, two Italian Cups, one Italian Supercup, and one UEFA cup. In 2008, with Mourinho's ap- pointment as the new Inter coach, Baresi was handed the role of an assistant team man- ager. Alongside the coach, his work was fundamental in guid- ing the team to the historical treble win in 2010. As well-evident in his biogra- phy as both player and assistant team manager, it is surely an honour for all Maltese Inter sup- porters to be given this unique opportunity to host Giuseppe Baresi who forms part of the team's historical past. More de- tails about his visit will be an- nounced by the club's commit- tee in the near future on their official website w w w.icpupizanettimalta.com. The 18-year-old will start pre-season with the Reds but is expected to go out on loan, with Championship side Derby thought to be interested. "It's a dream come true. It's a bit surreal and it hasn't really hit me yet. But I'm buzzing and just excited to get started," said Gomez. "The club has got great history, it's a great club and one that I've always been following from when I was young. Gomez won the 2014 European Championship in Malta with the England Under-17 side.
