22 maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 1 JULY 2015 Sport FORMULA 1 SWIMMING BASKETBALL Ricciardo not ruling out Red Bull departure DANIEL Ricciardo says that he cannot completely rule out depart- ing Red Bull at the end of 2015, as the team continues to examine its presence in Formula 1 following a difficult first half of the campaign. Ricciardo joined Red Bull from Toro Rosso in 2014 and won three races en-route to third place in the championship. 2015 has proved to be more chal- lenging for the squad and Ric- ciardo is currently seventh in the standings, without a podium finish to his name. Ricciardo said it was flattering to be linked to rival teams, such as Ferrari, though stressed that his focus remains with Red Bull, even if a departure cannot be ruled out. "What I want is to win, basically," Ricciardo told selected media, in- cluding GPUpdate.net. "That's a lot of my frustration this year, because of that. We're not in a position to win, and as a driver that's really the only thing you want. "At least at this point in my ca- reer, when I'm still young and hun- gry, I feel like I've still got a lot of potential in me. With contracts, this and that, it's not as easy as say- ing, 'Yeah, I'll go to Ferrari, and that's that'. "There are things in place, and from my understanding of con- tracts it's not likely that I can get out. But at the same time I re- ally feel that Red Bull can make a change for next year and can get back up the front. "We've still got good people in the team, and the right ingredients to do it, it's just making that next step – it has to be the right step and I think we can get back up there. Going back on the Ferrari thing it's obviously nice to be recognised by a team like that. I'll take it as a compliment, and we'll see what happens." When asked whether he could completely dismiss the prospect of him leaving Red Bull, Ricciardo said it was unlikely but that noth- ing could be ruled out. "It's a tough one," he said. "I'll probably never rule anything out completely. I don't have experience with contracts, I haven't been in Formula 1 that long. "Things can change, anything can change. Obviously [Red Bull owner] Dietrich [Mateschitz] said some things in the press as well and you never know what's going to happen. As I said, it's unlikely."
