maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 1 JULY 2015 News MIRIAM DALLI THE 18-year-old director of Fort Security Services has submitted his resignation after being "politically victimised" for his role, Economy Minister Chris Cardona said. Addressing parliament, Cardona said Karl Cutajar said he felt he should resign his post following the "political victimisation" he endured. Cutajar, nephew of Mario Azzo- pardi, chief of staff at the Economy Ministry, came under fire following his appointment at the government security company. In reply to parliamentary questions raised by PN MP Jason Azzopardi and subsidiary questions by Beppe Fenech Adami, Cardona said Cuta- jar did not receive any remuneration for his role. He insisted that Cutajar was em- ployed at MIMCOL "on his own steam". Turning the guns onto Opposi- tion leader Simon Busuttil, Cardona said that two aides who had been as- signed with Busuttil during his term as member of the European Parlia- ment were given jobs at Dar Malta. One of them, Cardona said, was a 19-year-old who was employed at Dar Malta two days before the 2013 general election at an annual salary of €90,000. Busuttil retorted that the cousin to junior minister Ian Borg and the daughter of Finance Minister Ed- ward Scicluna are both now working at Dar Malta, which is Malta's base in Brussels. Interjecting, Borg clarified that both his cousin and Scicluna's daughter were already working in the public service before they ap- plied, and followed a rigorous proc- ess to join Dar Malta. "My cousin joined the civil serv- ice in 2010 and a year later he was posted in Malta House, London, for four years. He applied as part of a public call," Borg said, adding that his cousin was now earning "€4,000 less than he did at Malta House". Approved and issued by HSBC Bank Malta p.l.c. 116, Archbishop Street, Valletta VLT1444 which is regulated by the Malta Financial Services Authority. "We appreciate that this new ticketing system is a major change in the way people travel by bus, and we would like to offer perhaps the more vulnerable users, a little more time to get acquainted with this system by allowing those who may have not got their tallinja card to still buy the existing two hour ticket on the bus at 30c instead of paying €2 from tomorrow, 1 July," Daniel Grech, commercial direc- tor said. "We had an overwhelming re- sponse to the tallinja card, but the last few days have seen an even bigger response, with over 30,000 applications received in just a few days with the total applications now nearing 140,000." The company explained that over 100,000 cards would have been delivered by today, including a specially organised second postal delivery for this afternoon. "We would like to put people's minds at rest. Anyone who regis- ters until today and doesn't receive the tallinja card in time, will still benefit from the reduced fares as of the 1st of July as they will be able to claim a refund using a simple form which can be submitted online, by post or in person. We are guaran- teeing this for anyone who registers until the 30th June," Grech said.
