21 Sport maltatoday, Wednesday, 11 november 2015 motorsports Vella and Zammit win the Autocross modified The 'Assocjazzjoni Sport Mu- turi u Karozzi' (ASMK) is to continue the motorsport ac- tivities on Sunday 15 Novem- ber 2015 when the enduro Mo- torcycles will be riding their second event of the ASMK Pasta Poiatti 2015/2016 Na- tional Championship. This will be held at hal Far close to the Play Mobil factory. Registra- tion starts at 9.00am while the event starts at 10: 00am. Meanwhile on Sunday 8th November the Association held the 2nd event of the Autocross Championships at the Sports Complex at Ta' Qali. In this event the participating com- petitors were divided in the two classes that for the Autocross Modified and for the Standard Class. During the day the Modified Autocross drivers demonstrat- ed strong competition during the three heat so much so that on this day nobody managed to win the all the three quali- fying heats. Christian Mark Galea on his Fiat Ritmo won the highest points score of the day and automatically secured his place on the Start-line for the Class A. Philip Joe Vella and Malcolm Borg both on an Opel Corsa, Kieth Borg on a Vauxhall Nova, Christian Apap on Ford Fiesta and Josef Abela on another Nova secured their places on the Class A grid. At the Start signal Vella and Galea accelerated hard to the first Right hand bend but shortly during this first cor- ner Galea did a small mistake which costed him three places back. The race final continued with Vella taking the lead fol- lowed by Borg and Abela. Yet the focus was on Galea who now was in fifth place. Galea first started adding pressure on Apap until the latter with- drew due to mechanical dam- age. Galea who now advanced one place started making pres- sure on Abela who defended his place as best as he could. But just before the end of the Finish Line Galea took an over- taking move and won on Abela just before the Finish Line. The Finish Flag was dropped on Vella by concluding the nine (9) Laps first. Borg, Galea and Abela followed in 2nd, 3rd and 4th places respectively. Class B finalist were Joseph Micallef on his Opel Corsa, Noel Zammit on a Fiat Punto, JeanPaul Grech on a Peugeot 106, Jonathan Vella on Ford Fi- esta and Jonathan Camilleri on an Opel Corsa. From the Start of this Race Fi- nal Vella and Zammit were seen to take the lead at the first cor- ner. Vella took the helm of the race followed close by Zammit and Micallef. They drove their cars with extreme perfection and close driving. Yet Zammit was seen making pressure on Vella while in the same time Micallef was making pressure on Zammit. On the Third Lap both Zammit and Micallef passed Vella and the race stayed like this for many more Laps. But in the last bend which is a few meters before the Finish Line Micallef caught the inner tire barrier on the roadside and had to withdraw from the race due to a suspension damage. Meanwhile the race ended a few seconds later this accident of Micallef where Zammit won his first time Class B win fol- lowed by Vella and Grech. In the Standard Class we again saw Deane Farrugia driv- ing his Citroen AX and domi- nate the Race Final. Farrugia also won this second event ahead of Traydon Bailey on a Ford Ka. During this & Laps Fi- nal Race Ian Fenech finished in third place on another Citroen AX. Fourth and Fifth places were won by Gozo drivers Joseph Vella on Ford Fiesta and new entrant Johann Vella on an Opel Corsa. The Association wish to draw the attention of members and spectators that the next event taking place at the ASMK Sports Complex at Ta' Qali on Sunday 22nd November is to include holy Mass at 10.00am. Mass is celebrated annually in November at the ASMK Premises for the deceased AS- MK members. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. The racing program starts at 11.00am and is to include the Autocross Standard and Modi- fied Classes and the 1st Moto- cross race of the season. The Tour Finals, where Murray can clinch the year-end number two ranking for the first time, begin on Sunday, meaning a testing few days for the 28-year- old. The transition to the specific movements of claycourt tennis have proved problematic in the past for Murray who has often suffered back pain as a conse- quence. "I've tried to juggle the two so that I don't have to miss the (Tour Finals) but also give my- self a good chance of playing well in the Davis Cup," said Murray who was beaten in the Paris Masters final on Sunday by Novak Djokovic. "It's important I'm not too hard on myself and don't just expect to play great tennis at the start at the o2 as soon as I switch back to hardcourts. "I need to respect what the change to the clay can do to my body and also what it can do to your game because it's a com- pletely different movement." When Britain beat Australia in September to reach the final for the first time since 1978, Murray winning all his three matches, the Scot indicated he might miss the ATP finale that features the world 's top eight players. he now says he could still pull out if he is worried about his fitness for the Davis Cup final that starts on Nov. 27. "It's going to be tricky," added Murray. "If I get in- jured in the next couple of days or something happens to my back then obviously I won't play (at the o2).
