58 58 maltatoday, SUNDAY, 29 NOVEMBER 2015 Sport WATERPOLO BOV Water Polo Players of the Year Awards STEVEN Camilleri (Neptunes Grimaldi) and Stephen Micallef (Marsaskala Nutrition Empire) are the BOV Water Polo Play- ers of the Year for the Premier and First Division respective- ly. Francesca Paolella (Sliema Frank Salt Real Estate) won the Women's award. Camilleri's water polo season 2015 can be described as one of the best of his career, winning all three 'Player of the Month' awards during the season. Stevie scored an astounding 61 goals in 17 matches making him the top scorer. This was not an easy feat considering the class of the for- eign players in the league such as triple Olympic gold medallist Peter Biros and World Cham- pion Guillermo Molina. This is the fifth time that Camilleri has achieved this award and has this year returned to the top f light of Italian Water Polo signing with A1 side Circolo Canottieri Or- tigia. A never-say-die attitude and a strong presence in the centre, despite not being one of the big- ger guys in the water are Stephen Micallef 's characteristics. Stephen was crucial in Marsas- kala's two victories over rivals Marsaxlokk in just 4 days to win both the BOV First Division Knock Out and League, scoring 4 goals in Marsaskala's 10-8 win in the Knock Out final. Francesca Paolella's high scor- ing and speed in the pool con- tributed to Sliema's victory in the BOV Water Polo Women's League. The swimming veteran also captained Sliema to the fi- nal of the BOV Women's Knock Out Final losing by an odd goal to Exiles with Paolella scoring 4 of her team's 9 goals. Anthony Scicluna, Chief Of- ficer at Bank of Valletta and Joe Caruana Curran, President of the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta presented the awards to the winners during the ASA's Annual General Meeting. Un- fortunately Stevie Camilleri could not be present to collect his award due to his commit- ments in Ortigia. The award was collected by Matthew Bonello. President of Neptunes Water Polo Club in his stead. Bank of Valletta also announced that they will be extending their sponsorship to the ASA for the 2016 season.
