An evening of music at the Seashells Resort at Suncrest GUESTS of the Seashells Resort at Suncrest were treated to a fan- tastic impromptu evening per- formance by students from the Hampton School in the UK who were on holiday in Malta. The students played a wonderful rep- ertoire from their jazz and swing ensembles, covering timeless classics such as Birdland, Penn- sylvania 65000 and Chattanooga Choo Choo. Casino Malta sponsors 50 MSPCA dogs and cats AS part of the company's year long calendar of corporate social responsibility initiatives, Casino Malta has proudly partnered with the MSPCA (The Malta Society for the Protection and Care of Animals) in a pro- gramme they insist is the most simple and effective way to help rehabilitate and re-home ani- mals. For the amount of €52 per animal, Ca- sino Malta has com- mitted to sponsor 50 an- imals entering the MSPCA Re-Homing Centre, Floriana. In addition to food and medical sup- plies, this sponsorship programme provides things like animal bed- ding, special dietary food, toys, treats, leashes and other supplies that help to make an animal's life at the MSPCA as happy as possible until they find that loving home. To celebrate this partnership with Casino Malta, the MSPCA shall be naming these 50 animals with a fun association to the 'ca- sino' world. So over the next few months be on the look out for: Ace, Lucky, Black- jack, Dice and many more… Their stories will be told, from entering the Re- Homing Centre, health checks, fun walks, to the final successful re-homing event. The MSPCA would like to thank Casino Malta for their generous and heart-warming donation of €2,500 and helping to promote kindness and prevent cruelty to animals, through educa- tion and advocacy. When we throw away our surplus food as a result of purchasing or cooking too much, we rarely pause to think of the significance and repercussions of our actions and the negative impacts that food waste has on the envi- ronment. Food waste accounts for ap- proximately half of Malta's household waste: approximately 22% of the food we purchase ends up being wasted – that's €1 out of every €5 spent which goes straight to the bin. As consumers we have a deter- mining role to play and our ac- tions can reshape the food waste landscape. It's really a win-win situation: you produce less and you save more! To begin with, we need to become smarter shoppers by thinking about what we are buy- ing, when it will be consumed, and how to utilise it to the maxi- mum. As from this week, spokesper- sons from the national aware- ness campaign 'Don't Waste Waste', will be present in many leading supermarkets to offer tips and advice on how to shop wisely and how to effectively implement habits which help in suc- cessfully reducing your food waste and spending less money. A number of leading su- permarkets among them Pavi, Pama, Park Towers, Scotts, Smart and Arka- dia in Gozo, are all on board, so do look out for these waste spokespersons as they will also be handing out useful give- aways. Do your bit too – come talk to us to become a smarter shopper. Sure you can! Further tips on how to re- duce food waste can be found on http://w w w.dontwastewaste. gov.mt/ Students give an evening performance The Farsons beer festival is always heavily patronised Freedom and peace at sea
