maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 19 OCTOBER 2016 17 Events 24 Achievers Lead the way for a Day TWENTYFOUR youth and top executives of some of Malta's most respected businesses met to ex- change their views on how to run a company thanks to Leaders For A Day initiative (L4D), the Junior Achievement Young Enterprise Malta Foundation (JAYE Malta). During the day, October 5, these Achievers were invited to attend departmental and board meet- ings, participate in team discus- sions, and engage with employees and share their views of various strategic and operational pro- cesses within the business they visited. A number of participants were also shown around different regional hubs and offices operated by some of the larger businesses, whilst others had the opportunity to attend employee training and industry specific seminars. Samuel Bonello, who attends St Aloysius College Sixth Form and spent the day with HSBC Bank Malta CEO, Andrew Beane, stated it was a "once in a lifetime experience, learning stuff you cannot learn in class". Justine Barbara, from De La Salle Col- lege Sixth Form, who was side by side with Green Skips Malta joint managing director Mary Gaerty, stated it was an experience that "inspired me to never give up on my dreams"! The initiative was not only ben- eficial for the young participants but also the more accomplished executives; an opinion shared by Denis Zammit Cutajar, CEO at P. Cutajar Ltd, who "enjoyed shar- ing opinions with the students" and Genevieve Abela, FELTOM Malta CEO, who commented that whilst being "an absolute pleasure working with youth" it also af- forded the time to "stop and con- sider my day in relation to sharing with others". The event concluded with a closing ceremony attended by Evarist Bartolo, Minister for Education and Employment, and Sheikh Al Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani from Qatar who made a special appearance and addressed the youths present. During the ceremony a Declaration of Intent was signed by all present as an af- firmation of the need to further promote hands-on entrepreneur- ship education as offered through the JAYE Malta Company Pro- gramme and initiatives like L4D. "We are thrilled with the re- sponse received from the business community and participants for this first initiative. It was a jam- packed day offering tomorrow's leaders an exceptional, all-access pass, into the world of work today! We thank all the companies, CE- Os, and staff who contributed to making this initiative a memora- ble one for the young participants and look forward to next year's activity," stated Julian Azzopardi, CEO of JAYE Malta. Run for the first time in collabo- ration with the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, and CORE, L4D is of- fered to participants who suc- cessfully completed the JAYE Malta Company Programme and obtained the Entrepreneurial Skills PassTM (ESP) certification, an exclusive JAYE certification of their entrepreneurial acumen and attitude recognised in all of Europe. Bus services switch to winter schedule CASH tickets on buses were re- duced from €2 to €1.50 as of last Sunday, October 16, in line with the annual change in fares as regulated by the government. The reduction in the fare could further encourage the use of public transport, helping to alle- viate traffic congestion. The bus service is now also operating ac- cording to the winter schedule. The fares on tallinja cards are not affected. Route X1A has been intro- duced again this winter to serve Cirkew wa, Mater Dei, Univer- sity and MCAST in Paola, be- tween Monday and Friday. An additional route 30, serving Bombi, Kullegg, the University and Mater Dei Hospital has also been introduced. These routes have been intro- duced in particular to help stu- dents who are travelling to the University, to the Junior College and to the MCAST campus in Paola. Holders of a student card may avail themselves of the Stu- dent Pass with which student card holders may travel for 90 days for €55, thus benefitting from further savings of €8.00. The new schedules are avail- able online on publictransport. com.mt. Due to these changes the 'Journey Planner' on the website and on the tallinja app are temporarily unavailable until the updates are in place. During these days, Malta Public Transport is also updating all timetables at every bus stop in Malta and Gozo.
