In only three countries at least half know it is false that instant messaging and online voice conver- sations are confidential and cannot be accessed without permission: Denmark (57%), Sweden (51%) and the Netherlands (50%). At the other end of the scale just 6% in Greece, 9% in Cyprus and 16% in Lithuania know this statement is false. In their judicial pro- test, Life Network Malta argued that the pill worked by causing a "chemical abortion". It said that the Medicines Authority, as a state entity, is obliged to follow Maltese law and respect human life, guar- anteeing it in each of its stages and to issue its advice accordingly. "The decision to issue licences for emergency contraceptives is in breach of Malta's criminal code and the Embryo Protection Act," LNM argued. LNM said claims that Malta "was bound" by EU medical li- censing rules were misleading, be- cause Malta's EU Accession Treaty expressly excluded contraceptives and abortifacients from the EU's marketing authorisation rules. The argument put forward dur- ing the morning-after pill discus- sion was that EllaOne was covered by a European permit. The movement also accused the National Commission for the Promotion of Equality of taking "a position in favour of the importa- tion of the MAP by basing itself on statements issued by the Women's Rights Foundation, while ignor- ing the vulnerability of embryos, which have no voice". Lawyers Tonio Azzopardi, Lou- ise Ann Pulis and Ramon Bonett Sladden signed the judicial pro- test.
