15 WHAT'S ON WHAT'S ON TODAY Malta Café Scientifique – Chicken and egg: philosophical play with thought experiments A playful ref lection on thought experiments aimed at settling the issue of the chicken and the egg. Thought experiments are made of imaginary situations where questions are posed around contradictions in how we think about the world. Most thought experiments are based on are values and existence and are meant to remain riddles. Those that challenge our logic tend to be solved throughout the course of history. Taking place at St James' Cavalier, doors open at 7:15pm. Forgotten Landscapes The first of a series of multimedia exhibits, including visual artwork, photography and film as well as publications, which seeks to fuse art and history in order to unveil the narratives behind abandoned structures and locations dotting the Maltese Islands. Organised by Sick of Ants. Entrance is at €5 at the door. EXHIBITIONS MARCH 4 Rituals for Our Safety Exhibition by Nikolas Ventourakis at Blitz, St Lucy Street, Valletta. Ventourakis is an artist in residence at Blitz, and the multidisciplinary exhibition will combine photography, projections and installation of new works created during the month-long residency. UNTIL APRIL 2 Forgotten Landscapes Multimedia exhibition of original artwork, photography, film and book publication on four select abandoned locations in Malta at Spazju Kreattiv, St James Cavalier, Valletta. Featuring artists Mark Mallia, Jeni Caruana, Marika Borg and Caroline Said Lawrence focusing on Jerma Palace, Mgarr Ix-Xini Pumping Station, Fort Campbell and Aħrax Tower. PUBLIC READINGS, LECTURES MARCH 2 Dark Souls and Romanticism Public lecture by Daniel Vella at the Faculty of Arts Library, University of Malta at 18:00. Vella will propose that the popular role-playing video game Dark Souls carries within it themes pertaining to the intellectual and aesthetic movement of Romanticism, and his paper – 'Dark Souls and Romanticism' – will make the case that this adoption of Romantic tropes in Dark Souls foregrounds the parallel between the subjective conditions of videogame play, in which the player exists as a member of the gameworld while remaining ontologically distinct from it, and everything implied in the Romantic understanding of subjectivity.
