The striking though occluded garden is quoted on National Ge- ogarphic's Intelligent Travel Blog as being, "one of the five most beautiful cemeteries in Europe". The fundraising activity is being held to support the costs of main- taining this historically significant site. During this family-friendly event, a historical re-enactment group will be present in their Na- poleonic period military and civil- ian costumes, and there will also be flower and cakes stalls as well as used books and bric-a-brac. Children will be entertained with a bouncing castle and face painting between 11:00 and 13:00, and refreshments, home-made cakes and marmalades will be available. There will also be prizes in a raf- fle, and the Falcon club of Malta will be showing off their majestic birds. Entry is €2 for adults, children un- der 12 come in free THE Valletta 2018 Foundation has launched an Open Call for musicians, event organisers and creatives of all disciplines to sub- mit proposals to form part of Eu- ropean Capital of Culture's Music Programme during 2018. Propos- als of musical and music-related projects and events are being con- sidered. Successful proposals will be awarded a grant of up to €6,000 and will feature in Valletta 2018's calendar of events. Proposals will be assessed on a number of cri- teria such as their experimental and participatory nature as well as their spirit of fostering collabora- tion between different musicians, genres and different types of mu- sic. Preference will be given to pro- posals created by young people, and that and that foster collabora- tion between local musicians and those from the Mediterranean region. Proposals may be newly devel- oped or may form part of an al- ready existing event or festival. Din l-Art Helwa Spring fête at the Msida Bastion Garden Opportunity to be part of the Valletta 2018 music programme St John's Co-Cathedral Museum closed for extension and refurbishment works THE museum at St John's Co- Cathedral has been temporarily closed as it enters the dismantling phase in preparation for its refur- bishment and extension works. The works are being managed by the St John's Co-Cathedral Foundation, which is aiming to complete the project within three years. The refurbishment will al- low all collections the foundation possesses to be displayed, includ- ing the twenty-nine Flemish tap- estries, the sacred vestments, the silver collection, the illuminated manuscripts, and the Cappella Ardente. According to the foundation, a Caravaggio Centre is being planned in order to put focus on the artist's works, including The Beheading of St John, which will remain in the Oratory. Furthermore, a tapestry cham- ber, which is still to be construct- ed, will house together the one- of-a-kind set of tapestries, which are presently dispersed in several rooms. The foundation said that the chamber will comprise ap- propriate lighting, climate control and reading areas. The foundation added that the vestments hall will form part of the original carapecchia intended as a room were the Grand Mas- ters used to dress in their sacred robes. It will house the collec- tions donated by various Grand Masters as gioia to St John's Co- Cathedral, then their conventual church. The silver vaults will contain various religious monstrances and silver artefacts currently not being displayed anywhere in the current layout of the museum. The museum's new entrance on Merchants' street will facilitate accessibility for the physically challenged. The extension will have no di- rect impact on the church, foun- dation said.
