Wheel shaft (4) Ke2+ Kg8 Qe8# DARTS EARLIER this year the Malta Darts Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Education launched an innovative schools project aimed to assist students in improving their mathematical skills whilst having fun practicing the sport of darts. The pilot project carrying the name of "Learning mathematics through darts" is currently being delivered at the St Ignatius Col- lege Secondary School in Handaq has seen male and female students aged between 11-13 years' working on mathematical equations; men- tal mathematics and more whilst practicing darts under the guid- ance of the associations members. Accompanying the students dur- ing these sessions is Ms. Angela Xuereb a mathematics teacher at the school and she had the follow- ing comments about the project; "For the last twelve weeks, a group of students have been participat- ing in the Darts mid-day break ac- tivity. It has provided the students the opportunity to participate in a challenging game, that requires a high level of skill, accuracy and a steady hand. While playing, they had the opportunity to work on building teamwork skills, improv- ing hand and eye co-ordination, enhancing the ability to concen- trate and ameliorate mathematical skills. It has also helped students to boost their confidence through increased success in the game". The association will be look- ing to build on this project in the coming years and expand this pro- ject into more schools and clubs. THE return leg is scheduled to be played on 18/04. LADIES CHALLENGE SHIELD The third edition of the Malta Ladies Challenge shield came to an end with Carol Woodcock re- taining the title for a second con- secutive season after a tightly con- tested final day. She edged out Jane Agius Bag- galey by one point and Bev Keen by a further point in third place. On behalf of the Malta Darts As- sociation we would like to con- gratulate all the participants and host David Busuttil at Munchies Pub, Bugibba.
