41 Events maltatoday, SUNDAY, 13 AUGUST 2017 On 7 September in New York City, Heidi Klum and Lidl will be revealing the secret surround- ing the #LETSWOW campaign, which launched in 28 countries at the beginning of August, and celebrating the premiere of their first ever collaboration. Right on time for New York Fashion Week, all pieces will be presented for the first time in the international show. "Lidl hasn't really been associ- ated with fashion up to now. With Heidi Klum, a creative source of inspiration and successful design- er by our side, we want to change that. #LETSWOW is all about having fun with fashion and sur- prising people – just like Lidl in the fashion world," said Lidl Malta management. As a bustling metropolis and hotbed for trends, New York is more than a mere backdrop to the event: the German fashion icon has drawn inspiration from her fa- vourite city for "Esmara by Heidi Klum: Heidi & The City". As multifaceted as Heidi Klum The results are impressive. As wild as New York and as multifaceted as Heidi Klum herself, the collection offers urban outfits with a real wow effect: delicate tops, bomber jackets, super-skinny jeans, romantic lace, rock-style leather, leopard prints, vibrant blue and warm cognac. Each item impresses with its high quality in the Lidl-typical price range, cost- ing between approx. 9 and 22 euros. "I wanted to create fashion with a wow effect that is easy to com- bine and makes every woman look fantastic – and all at an unbeatable price," said Heidi Klum. The sale of the collection will be- gin on 18 September in the 8 stores of Lidl Malta. In addition to cloth- ing (in sizes 36 to 44), the range also includes accessories and shoes (in sizes 37 to 41). Internationally, the collection will be available in a total of 28 countries – from over 10,000 Lidl stores. The timber carriages were introduced in Malta by the Royal Artillery for the mounting of a series of cannons up to 10 inches in di- ameter and were in use between the 1830s and the 1890s. At their maximum numbers, at least five such carriages were mounted in the Saluting Battery where they commanded a 180° view of the Grand Harbour thanks to their ability to swing around on iron rails. This gun started off as a 32-pounder smooth-bore muzzle loader and was later, at the time of the studded elongated shell, converted into a 64-pounder rifle gun. During the official unveiling of the carriages which took place at HSBC Bank Malta's summer event, Mario Farrugia - Chairman of Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna, said: "The rotating traversing carriages were an important part of an ar- my's arsenal in the late 18th cen- tury Europe. Their use in Malta was introduced by the British in the first half of the 19th century and they went on to be used until the 1890s." "Unfortunately, after the 1890s, these carriages were relegated to history and not one example was retained for posterity. Thanks to the commitment of HSBC Malta Foundation, the reconstructed carriages are the first authentic example to be returned to Malta's historic fortifications after an ab- sence of some 130 years," added Mr Farrugia. The carriages were typically made from two parts – a lower part known as the tra- versing platform and an upper part known as the slid- ing carriage. The latter was designed to slide into the platform with each firing of the gun before being hauled back with the help of block and tackle and lots of el- bow grease for loading. The entire project was financed by HSBC Malta Foundation which involved not just the manufactur- ing of the traversing carriage in the United Kingdom, but also their transporting and emplacing in Malta. HSBC Malta CEO Andrew Beane said: "The Saluting Battery is one of Malta's most iconic sites that has played a remarkable role in the his- tory of the country. HSBC Malta is delighted to have worked in part- nership with Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna to restore this vital part of the Battery that had been lost for more than a century." Rock The Rock The first edition of Rock The Rock (RTR) Music Festival prom- ises to be a first not only in name, but also in magnitude. Rock The Rock will boast a multi-stage set up: one dedicated to the Metal genre, another to Rock and another still to host various local bands per- forming varying genres such as Alternative Rock and acoustic sets, making it as the biggest Rock and Metal festival in Malta. Each day there will be a minimum of two headlining acts (one on each of the Metal and Rock stages) with a minimum of four local bands supporting them, for a total of around six- teen bands per night (about 50 in total). The festival will also contain several well-varied attractions such as two Pro-Wrestling Shows per night, daily Medieval re-en- actments, artesian stalls, a beer garden, several food stalls and also a dedicated kid's area. In line with the biggest international music festivals, there will also be a camping area for festival goers (free for block ticket holders). The ticketing structure was put in place purposely in order to be able to make the festival as afford- able as possible, with the organis- ers offering a ticket for each stage separately.
