22 maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 6 SEPTEMBER 2017 Sport MOTORSPORTS ASMK Autocross in Gozo in aid of Arka Foundation THE 'Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi' (ASMK) will be performing in Xewkija with the Autocross cars this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This special event, the fourth of its kind held in Gozo, is a pre-Cham- pionship event and is sponsored by 'ASMK' and 'Pasta Poiatti'. This programme is mainly being held in Gozo to raise money in aid of 'Arka Foundation' which does very valuable work towards its residents in Gozo. Secondly, this event will also further expose the Autocross motor- sport among the Gozo spectators end enthusiasts who may find difficulty to make it to Ta' Qali on Sundays to watch the Autocross cars in action at their home racetrack. This fourth edition of the event will be held as per last year's venue at the 'Gozo Horse Racing Association' (GHRA) track in Xewkija. Once more the ASMK reached an agreement with the Association of Horse Racing in Gozo to make use of their sports complex for this event. A temporary track is being built by members of the ASMK on the large remaining land located in the cen- tre of the horse track, which area is never used for horse racing. This area is large enough in space to hold the Autocross activity, which is expect- ed to offer great fun to all attending spectators who will be located in safe areas. All this is possible with the full cooperation of the GHRA Commit- tee under the leadership of chairper- son Mary Mifsud and the Gozo Horse Racing Association Committee. The Minister for Gozo is also sup- porting this event in conjunction with the Gozo Sports Board and the Department of Works of Gozo. Thanks are also due to the Police Force in Gozo, the Water Services Corporation, the family of Joe Apap and many other collaborators from Gozo who are supporting this event to make it possible and a success too. On Friday 8th and Saturday 9th September the track will be open from 5:00pm for training and test- ing of cars by all Maltese and Gozo drivers present. The track is situated on Ta' Xhajma Road l/o Xewkija on the road to Nadur. The competition races will be held on Sunday, 10th September starting at 10:30 am. All participating competitors and spectators are expected to make a donation in aid of Arka Foundation. The director of Arka Foundation is expected to attend this event and address all competitors and specta- tors present. The trophies, tokens and mementos for the winning driv- ers and distinctive personalities will take place on location at the end of the day's programme.
