maltatoday WEDNESDAY 29 NOVEMBER 2017 Sport 20 SPORTTODAY FOOTBALL Arsenal will not sell Ozil and Sanchez in January - Wenger ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger has ruled out sell- ing Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the January trans- fer window "unless something unbelievable happens." Both players are out of con- tract in the summer and have been the subject of repeated speculation that they may leave, with Ozil a reported target for Manchester United and Barcelona, and Sanchez the subject of a failed bid from Manchester City last summer. Speaking ahead of today's game with Huddersfield Town, Wenger was asked whether he thought both would still be at the club when the January transfer window closes. "Yes, of course," he said. "I rule it out. I don't think every day about that. "As long as they are here they give their best for the club. In my head they stay until the end of the season, unless something unbelievable hap- pens I don't see that changes." If neither player signs a con- tract extension, each could begin negotiating with other clubs in January ahead of a summer move. When asked whether he thought the pair would re- main at the club long term, Wenger said: "I am not the only one to decide that. They have to decide that as well." Wenger also spoke about the future of Jack Wilshere, who has also been linked with a move after failing to nail down a regular first-team place this season. "I always considered his in- terests because he has been an Arsenal player since a kid," said Wenger."My first priority is what is best for him. "I have to consider the inter- ests of Jack Wilshere and Ar- senal. If I think it's in his best interest to stay here, I will fight 100 percent for that." Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger Moyes tells Unsworth to leave Everton if denied full-time job WEST Ham United manager David Moyes has asked Da- vid Unsworth not to give up on management and consider leaving Everton for a manage- rial role in the lower leagues if he misses out on the vacant hot seat at Goodison Park. Everton caretaker boss Uns- worth's chances replacing the sacked Ronald Koeman on a per- manent basis are looking slim, with British media reporting the Merseyside club held talks with former England boss Sam Allardyce over the position. "If he doesn't take the Everton job, I think I would be telling Unsy to go and manage somewhere and earn your corn," Moyes told reporters ahead of West Ham's Premier League trip to Everton today. "If you want to move on, go and get a job in the Champi- onship or League One. I think there has been a generation of really good players out there who I believe should go and manage and try and come up. I would say earn your stripes first and show you can organ- ise so that you can control the team and show that your train- ing works, all the things that are linked with management and leadership." Unsworth guided the un- der-23 side to the Premier League 2 trophy last season but has struggled with the senior squad since taking charge from Koeman, recording just one win from seven matches in all com- petitions. Moyes, however, does not be- lieve Unsworth should give up hope of being handed the full- time job at Everton just yet. "I think one way or another David Unsworth will still be hoping he will still be Everton manager, and why should he not be? He has to do that," the 54-year-old Scot, who man- aged Everton between 2002-13, added. West Ham will kick-off today's league match in the relegation zone but a victory would see them climb above Everton on the table. Everton caretaker manager David Unsworth
