FEBRUARY 2-4 Antigone A Teatru Manoel production of Jean Anouilh's Antigone, which transposes the action of Sophocles' Greek tragedy of the same name to World War II. The seminar will be giving practical tips about the process of taking your theatri- cal performance to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It will feature talks by Steve Hili and Malcolm Galea, both of whom have performed and produced shows at the fringe on nu- merous occasions. Cost of partici- pation is only €40. FILM SCREENINGS JANUARY 10 Kinemastik Film Klub – The Wanted 18 Film screening of the satirical ani- mated take on the Israeli-Palestin- ian conflict The Wanted 18 at the Royal British Legion Bar, Melita Street, Valletta at 20:00. Part of the Kinemastik Film Klub events, and curated by Moviment Graffitti. JANUARY 10, 26 Cloudboy Screening of the Swedish film Cloudboy at the cinema of Spazju Kreattiv at St James Cavalier, Val- letta at 19:30 (January 10) and 20:30 (January 26). The film is a coming- of-age story that follows the life of Niilas, a twelve-year-old boy who undertakes a journey to visit his mother and half-siblings in rural northern Sweden. The film forms part of Spazju Kreattiv's Children and Young Audience Programme. Now in her early sixties, former beauty queen Bettie (Catherine Deneuve) finds herself jilted by her lover and left alone to deal with the financial problems facing her fam- ily's restaurant. JANUARY 31 Dragon Blade Screening of the Jackie Chan- starring historical action film at Spazju Kreattiv cinema at St James Cavalier, Valletta at 19:30. Dragon Blade is a 2015 Chinese-Hong Kong historical action film written and directed by Daniel Lee and starring Jackie Chan. In the film, Chan plays Huo An, the commander of The Silk Road Protection Squad during the Han Dynasty, who is commit- ted towards stopping battles and promoting the idea of peace. The screening is being organised by the China Cultural Centre, and forms part of the Happy Chinese New Year in Valletta 2018 series. BOOK LAUNCH JANUARY 28 City of Shadows Book launch of the self-published historical novel by John Naudi at Malta Society of Arts, Palazzo De La Salle, Republic Street, Valletta at 18:00. "Malta, late 19th Cen- tury. Valletta, the capital city, is in turmoil. A series of grisly murders leads London Constable, Archiba- ld Whitlock, to travel to Malta and assist with the investigation. Meanwhile, Don Lorenzo answers the Lord's call to protect the flock, while troubled woman Rita For- mosa wanders the tangled web of Strada Stretta. Danger lurks in the dark, con- stricted lanes of the city and time slowly runs out as each tries to un- lock the secret that is haunting Val- letta."
