46 Events maltatoday SUNDAY 7 JANUARY 2018 President's Solidarity FUN RUN, supported by BNF Bank, registers largest sum during L-Istrina AS a yearly appointment, the Pres- ident's Solidarity FUN RUN, sup- ported by BNF Bank donated its proceeds of €313,515 to L-Istrina, which this year has reached new heights surpassing last year's gen- erous amount. Representatives from BNF Bank led by Chairman Michael Frendo were present to mark the occasion. "Year after year, we keep be- ing pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming display of solidar- ity on display during this event," Frendo said. "From its inception, the Bank has kept its commitment to the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation (MCCFF), and, like everyone, we will continue to give our all to the community. The Bank wishes to thank the thou- sands of participants, the MCCFF and the entire BNF Bank team who contributed towards this ex- traordinary show of generosity." Pine trees donated by MAPFRE Middlesea planted at Savio College A number of trees were planted at Savio College under a sponsorship provided by MAPFRE Middlesea for the festive season. In the run up to Christmas, Form 3 students helped plant a number of Pine trees. "This noble gesture will not only serve to educate our students at Savio College but also will con- tribute to embellish the landscape and give much needed lungs to our country," Fr Jeremy Dalli, coordina- tor at Salesians said. "Christmas is a time of giving and sharing – and this year we wanted to share this with the boys at Savio College. It is our way of giving back," Felipe Navarro, CEO at MA- FRE Middlesea said. This initiative forms part of the company's CSR Programme, through which it works with a number of entities and NGOs to improve the standard of living of the community. The competition is open to entrepreneurs from all sectors, established and new. The EY Entrepreneur of the Year™ Award was launched in the US in 1986 and has now spread to 165 cities in over 60 countries. It is the world's biggest and most prestig- ious business award for entrepre- neurs and the only one with a truly global dimension. The Maltese winner will be flown to Monaco to compete for the grand prize, the EY World Entre- preneur of the Year™ Award. The event brings together national win- ners from more than 60 countries, selected from a pool of over 5,000 nominees. Entrepreneur of the Year™ alumni include some of the most influ- ential, innovative and exclusive entrepreneurs in the world; Guy Laliberté, the founder of Cirque de Soleil, Amazon founders Jeff Bezos and Reid Hoffman, Formula One's Eddie Jordan, Google's Sergey Brin and Larry Page and Howard Schultz of Starbucks to name a few. Last year, Alfred Pisani, chair- man of Corinthia Group, and Da- vid Vella, co-founder and CEO, Altaro Software, won the Maltese EY Entrepreneur of the Year™ and EY Rising Star awards. Just being nominated can elevate a company's profile through expo- sure to other entrepreneurs, spon- sors, judges and guests. The win- ners also benefit from significant international visibility which could drive the next phase of their com- pany's growth. The EY Entrepreneur of The Year Award™ is judged by an independ- ent panel made up of key figures from the Maltese business com- munity. The magnificent ballroom housed Frank Salt, the company founder, his children and directors as well as the 175-strong employee contingent, demon- strating the strong bonds of this Maltese company that has been finding homes and offices in Malta for almost five decades. As per tradition, the annual awards were given out to the top performers across the company in recognition of their con- tribution to the company during 2017. In addition, the annual team video chal- lenge was a highlight of the afternoon and hotly contested amongst the company's branches and support teams. This year the Marketing, Finance and Home Inte- riors team took top honours with their Maltese rendition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. The Christmas party is a highlight in the calendar of events of the company, which believes that while work is hectic, social activities play an important role in the culture of the company.
