THEATRE FEBRUARY 2-4 My Fair Lady – The Musical Musical production based on George Bernard Shaw's Pygmal- ion and produced by FM Theatre Productions. Taking place at the Mediterranean Conference Cen- tre, Valletta at 20:00 on February 2 and 3, and 15:30 and 19:00 on February 4. FEBRUARY 10-12 Il-Qarċilla: L-Għarusa Karfusa This year's edition of the tradi- tional carnival farce is written by Leanne Ellul and will be staged at various village squares in Malta and Gozo. L-Għarusa Karfusa is your classic tale of forbidden love between a fruit and a vegetable. In this absurd satirical universe where the villagers are named after vegetables, the inhabitants of 'Ħal-Insalata' are forbidden to talk to ones left in the forbidden quarantine; let alone fall in love! When Karfusa from the vegeta- ble hamlet lays her pretty eyes on Bajtru in the scheduled quar- antine, all hell breaks loose. The show will be staged at the follow- ing venues and times: Valletta: February 10 (17:00, 18:00, 19:00), Ħamrun: February 11 (09.30), Victoria: February 11 (15.30 and 18.00), Nadur: February 11 (20:30) and Għaxaq: February 12 (19.30). The show is directed by Jacob Piccinino and co-produced by Festivals Malta, Karnival ta' Malta, Gozo Carnival, and the Department of Maltese at the University of Malta. FEBRUARY 24, 25 Años Luz Shadow puppetry performance by Spanish theatre company Luz Micro y Punto at the Mqabba Primary School Hall, Mqabba at 18:00 (February 24) and 16:00 (February 25). The story centres around a composer caught in the process of musing over her next score, which she serendipitously uncovers through a playful crea- tive process. FEBRUARY 9 Art in the arena of activism: the Art+Feminism Edit-a-thon Public talk by curator, art critic, and Paris Art+Feminism organ- iser Flora Katz at Blitz, St Lucy Street, Valletta at 19:00. For this talk, Flora Katz will present the 2017 Paris edition and discuss some of the issues at the core of the project, such as, how art and wikipedia can be a driving force to gather a community and act upon feminist issues, and what is at stake in the elaboration of an activist and co-creative project within artistic institutions. FILM SCREENING FEBRUARY 17 Icon Island Valletta 2018 project by Vir- gil Widrich at the Salesians' Theatre, Sliema at 20:30. The Austrian filmmaker and direc- tor known for his experimen- tal films and multimedia works will be presenting a collage of visuals inspired by films dealing with the mystic and romantic journey to islands representing alternative societies or different states of mind, questioning local customs.
