45 Events maltatoday SUNDAY 25 MARCH 2018 Chefs from Corinthia Palace Hotel scoop 13 medals at top industry event in London HOTELYMPIA, the UKs most prestigious hospitality and food service event be- stowed a clutch of medals on the kitchen brigade from Corinthia Palace Hotel. The Corinthia Palace was the only Maltese team to take part in the competition. The four-day event includes a compe- tition to award top culinary skills and Corinthia Palace Hotel chefs walked away with a total of 13 medals, including two gold, three silver and eight bronze med- als. "I am delighted for my team," said Chef Hogan. "They are amazing results." The tally of 13 medals at this year's Hotelym- pia improves on the eight medals the ho- tel secured at the last event, in 2016. The fantastic Hotelympia results fol- low hot on the heels of success on their home turf, when the kitchen brigade se- cured eight awards at the Malta Kulinarja Cooking and Arts Championships on February 22-25. The chefs competed across a vast range of categories and scored four silver med- als and four bronze medals. Angelo Xuereb is EY's Malta Entrepreneur of the Year ANGELO Xuereb, Chairman of AX Holdings, has won the sec- ond edition of EY's Malta Entre- preneur of the Year™ award. This June, Angelo Xuereb will travel to Monaco representing Malta to compete in EY's World Entrepre- neur of the Year™ award together with business leaders from more than 60 countries. Previous win- ners in Monaco have included trail-blazing entrepreneurs from a wide range of enterprises such as Amazon, Cirque du Soleil and LinkedIn. Shane Hunter from AquaBio- Tech Group won this year's EY's Rising Star award and he will also be attending the Monaco event in June. Ronald Attard, EY Malta's Man- aging Partner said: "For the second year running, EY's Malta Entre- preneur of the Year™ award has at- tracted some exceptionally strong nominations from very different sectors. This further highlights the diversity that does exist in Malta's economy, something we should all be proud of, and continue to nur- ture. While congratulating Mr Xuereb and Mr Hunter on their awards, I would like to once again thank all the participants, and the independent panel of judges, who have contributed to making this event a success once again." Apart from the winners, the other short listed finalists were Matthew Borg from Studio Moda Group, Zak Borg and Benji Borg from ANCHOVY., David Felice, David Drago and Konrad Buhagiar from Architecture Project, Alex Mifsud from Ixaris, Frank Salt from Frank Salt Real Estate, Joseph Sultana and John Abela from As- cent Software, and Marlon Grech from Thynk Software. EY has been holding the Entre- preneur of the Year™ awards on a global basis for three decades. Now spread to more than 60 coun- tries, they have created a global network of 50,000 entrepreneurs and are the global benchmark for capturing today's and tomorrow's entrepreneurial spirit. Over half of today's top 100 NASDAQ com- panies have won EY's Entrepre- neur of the Year award, and most received the award before they achieved top 100 status. De Domenico joined the company in December 2014 in the role of COO, assum- ing full responsibility for sales and letting operations, marketing, the overseas department, HR, IT, prop- erty management and home interi- ors divisions. In the three years since joining the company, De Domenico has had a significant impact on the growth of the Frank Salt Real Estate busi- ness increasing turnover by 75% and profits by a staggering 90%. Growth came from the aggressive expansion of the Frank Salt Real Estate network both in terms of infrastructure and in terms of in- vestment into human resources. The staff complement grew from 120 to almost 200 employees in the space of three years and five new branches were opened across the island; San Gwann, Tal-Ibrag, Mosta, and Cospicua, as well as a stand-alone Commercial division in Portomaso. "Frank Salt Real Estate is a pioneer in this industry and has been a leader in the market for nearly 50 years. Our investment into experienced staff and the ex- pansion of our branch network was in line with keeping pace with the growing demand and needs of our customers," said De Domenico. In addition, De Domenico spear- headed a brand identity relaunch with a modernised visual identity reflecting the progression of the brand since its inception nearly five decades ago. The refreshed brand look and feel was evidenced by new logo designs as well as new web- sites for Frank Salt Real Estate and visually across their full branch net- work on Malta and Gozo in terms of office and marketing rebrand- ing. Darren was also instrumental in the introduction of the "Let's Be Frank" marketing and advertising campaign which launched in May 2017 and talks about the company's ethos and honest way of doing busi- ness which the company has held in high regard since 1969. Darren De Domenico has over twenty years' experience in man- agement, sales, and marketing and held various executive roles dur- ing his career, including Market- ing Director, Sales Director and Managing Director. Prior to this appointment he managed one of Malta's most established and suc- cessful companies in sales and mar- keting of consumer goods and also managed a property portfolio for which he was directly responsible and involved in the construction of various commercial and residential projects. Darren De Domenico is also a non-executive Director of Giov. Muscat Co. Ltd., Euro Print Ltd., TFEA Ltd, Fairs & Exhibitions Ltd and the Malta Trade Fair Corpora- tion.
