Joined by members of Multigas Limited, the team whitewashed the entire residence in turnkey approach, within the allocated time, whilst the residents were entertained elsewhere for the day by the staff. John J Attard, Employee Relations & Security Man- ager at Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, commented, "Par- ticipation in this annual event by employees and their families is voluntary and by improving the quality of life of our fellow citizens who have few expectations, we truly feel that our contribution matters. We would like to thank Agenzija Sapport, as well as all volunteers for making this opportunity a reality." Farsons Group employees also responded enthusias- tically to the annual blood donation drive held at the Farsons Brewery on 23rd March. "Our thanks go to all those who voluntarily donat- ed blood, all the dedicated nursing and medical staff who provide such a vital service and to all those who in some way or other supported this initiative, which really is one of the best gifts of life," Attard continued. FIMBank hosts secondary school students FIMBANK plc recently brought IT careers closer to the sec- ondary school Computing students of St Paul's Mission- ary College, by means of a seminar held at the bank's St Julian's head office. The visit included a range of activities designed to make them aware of the critical role of IT within FIMBank's operations, while providing them with an over- view of the available careers at the bank in this area. The programme, which was implemented by FIMBank's IT Department included pres- entations through which they were introduced to the Group, and briefed upon the various technologies, processes, and dynamics involved in the run- ning of the business. Commenting on the visit, Clayton Said, Vice President from the bank's IT depart- ment, said that the day's pro- gramme was structured to put everything the bank did in terms of IT, within the context of the young people's studies. "Our primary aim was to demonstrate the relevance and importance of their studies to real world appli- cations, and to make them aware of career opportuni- ties in the field of informa- tion technology," he said. Adrian Mallia, ICT teacher at St Paul's Missionary Col- lege said it was vital to provide students with the opportunity to meet and interact with high level professionals within the thriving IT industry. "This fosters a sense of appre- ciation and enthusiasm that with the right education and commitment, our students can also develop into special- ists within their chosen fields," he said. "We are pleased with the success of this event and thank the IT staff at FIMBank for hosting us for the second year running." In the bank's state-of-the-art data centre, students could observe the Group's core IT infrastructure 97-year-old wins the Nazzareno Vassallo Award 2018 DURING a ceremony held at San Anton Palace, 97-year- old, Joseph Borg Bonello, a resident at Zammit Clapp home for the elderly, was awarded the Nazzareno Vas- sallo Award organised by CareMalta which this year is celebrating its 25th anniver- sary. Joseph was chosen for this award for his contribution in various sectors of society to this very day. He is still active as the Presi- dent of the Anglo Maltese League, the Malta Billiards and Snookers Association and the residents' committee of Zammit Clapp home. The selection board was chaired by Lawrence Gonzi and included journalist Ari- adne Massa, university lectur- er Holger Saliba and gerontol- ogy expert Rosette Farrugia Bonello. Joseph's contribution as chi- aran of the Friends of Mount Carmel Hospital commitee was also recognised by the selection board. Lawrence Gonzi in his report noted that today mental health has be- come a very important sub- ject since many are realising that the brain can become ill as much as the rest of the body so there is no room for any prejudices in this sector but a need for more effort to provide care and compossion to whoever suffers from men- tal health issues. During the same event for- mer minister Joseph Micallef Stafrace was given a special award for his long contribu- tion in the political and legal sectors. The board also noted his contribution as an author having published his latest book "Mill-ħażna ta' tifkiriet" as recently as December. This is a collection of articles he had published in "Leħen is- Sewwa". During this occasion mes- sages by President Coleiro Preca, Vassallo Group Chair- man, Nazzareno Vassallo and CareMalta CEO Natalie Briffa Farrugia were also delivered. This was the 20th anniver- sary since this award in 1998 started being given merely five years after CareMalta was set up in 1993. Joseph Micallef Stafrace
