During the day the Association started the activity by Fun Races by the Motocross Motorcycles where the organisation was host- ing the truck of Monster Energy Drink which is currently touring the European countries. On Sun- day the Monster Energy Drink truck came to Malta during Au- tocross and Motocross events of the ASMK. During this visit which was promoted by the General Soft Drinks Ltd., the Monster En- ergy Van was placed in the track where our Maltese riders performed Free Jumps during a photo session to celebrate this occasion. This experience which is crucial for Monster Energy continued with the Autocross cars where the drivers had the occasion to race the Monster Van on track which includes a number of straights and turns. After that, all drivers were pho- tographed next to the Monster Truck and later the crew distrib- uted the Monster Energy drink cans to all riders, drivers and also to the spectators present. Meanwhile, during the day 19 competitors registered for the ninth Autocross event where in the Modified Class we saw Karl Micallef on Ford Fiesta, Jean Paul Grech on his Peugeot 106 and Noel Zammit on his Fiat Punto dominate the Heats of the day and winning 24 qualifying points each from the 27 points available to ensure their place in the Final Class. With these drivers Vince Farrugia on his Volkswagen Po- lo, the Vauxhall Nova of Andrew Pisani and Joseph Spiteri on his Opel Corsa also qualified for the Final A race. From the Start of this Final Class A for modified cars all driv- ers raced abreast right to the first corner. From among the cars bunch Grech managed to take the helm of this Final while being followed close by Farrugia and Pisani. After the first two Laps Pisani lost his placing for Zam- mit as Zammit took the Joker Lap before Pisani did. In the meantime Grech continued to hold his leading placing ahead of Farrugia and Zammit. Following this Pisani finished driving slowly because of a damaged front wheel while Mi- callef too was forced to retire completely from the race be- cause of mechanical problems too. The result of this Final A shows that Grech won this Fi- nal followed by Farrugia and Zammit. Fourth place finisher is Spiteri while fifth and sixth place drivers are Pisani and Micallef respectively. In the final of the Modified Class B we had this result: - Ry- an Scicluna on his Ford Fiesta won this Final followed by Keith Borg and by Richard Spiteri both driving a Vauxhall Nova. Fourth placed driver was Bran- don Lee Vassallo on his Peugeot 205 while fifth place finisher was Jonathan Vella on a Ford Fiesta. The Standard Class Final line- up was composed of Kyle Agius on a Renault 5, Nicovich Chircop on a Peugeot 106, Jerom Peplow on Kia Avella, Chris Formosa on Ford Fiesta and the Citroen AX of Deane Farrugia. From the Start of this Final we saw Farrugia making a good launch and taking the lead. He was fol- lowed closely by Chircop and Agius. Shortly after the first cor- ner there was a contact between Peplow with Agius and conse- quently Agius picked the tyres safety barrier but overturned his car. Racing was stopped as a pre- caution for the driver's safety and to inspect any hazards that might have been created on the track due to the accident. Soon all danger on the course was recti- fied and since no one was injured the racing resumed but without Agius who suffered mechanical damage to his car and without Peplow who was suspended by the Referee of the day. This was also confirmed by the Executive Committee present following film footage taken from various vehicles. The revamped race started and the results are as fol- lows. Farrugia won this class fol- lowed by Chircop on his Peugeot and Formosa on the Fiesta who finished in third place. Meanwhile the program of activities of the Association is to continue next Saturday 26th May 2018 with the Eighth race of the Honda Motocross National Championship 2017/2018. This program at ASMK Race Circuits at Ta Qali starts at 4pm and the premises gate opens at 2pm.
