KARL AZZOPARDI AN elderly blind man was reportedly threatened and assaulted when he asked a couple if he could sit in the disabled seating of a bus. Gaspare Mizzi from Ta' Giorni was on his way home from a hospital ap- pointment when he asked a couple if he could sit in the disabled seating on the bus, which request resulted into a barrage of punches and slurs. Mizzi, 68, who became blind two years ago after an accident, was visit- ing the hospital for a general check- up with his wife Maria Mizzi. The elderly couple boarded the number 22 bus and headed for the allocated disa- bled seating located in the front of the public bus, only to be met by a couple and their children who were occupy- ing the designated seating. Maria, Gaspare's wife, asked the mother to vacate one of the seats oc- cupied by a three-year-old child in order for Gaspare to sit down. 8 Blind man assaulted on bus over seating reserved for disabled KARL AZZOPARDI THE body of 20-year-old Neil Zammit was discovered by the Armed Forces, 24 hours after he went missing while diving. The body of the young man was found at the bottom of the sea some 24 hours after he went missing while diving. It was recovered at around 4.15pm yes- terday. The discovery was confirmed by both the police and the Armed Forces of Malta, whose divers found Zammit's body. Spearfishing enthusiast Neil Zammit was reported missing after he failed to surface from a dive late on Monday af- ternoon. He was reported missing by a friend he was diving with. The search for the young man began on Monday night, with the AFM de- ploying a patrol boat and helicopter for the operation. The search for Zammit continued yesterday morning, however the AFM divers were called out of the water after a large fish was spotted in the area. The divers were back in the water in a matter of hours and ultimately found Zammit's body. It is as yet unclear what caused Zam- mit, an experienced diver, to face dif- ficulties. In a statement issued yesterday even- ing, the Police said that the body had been taken to Haywharf in Valletta and would later be identified by authorities. Investigations, they said, were still underway.
