6 FEBRUARY 16 The Retro Cinema Valentines movie After a few decades, the Leone Philharmonic Soci- ety will be opening again the doors of its Aurora Opera House as a Cinema. Teatru tal-Opra Aurora is proud to present a one- time screening of the 1977 big-screen classic 'Saturday Night Fever' featuring John Travolta and Karen Gorney on Saturday 16th February 2019, as part of the Valen- tines' in Gozo programme of events. Entrance is free of charge, on a first-come- first-served basis. No prior reservation is required. The film starts at 7pm and doors open at 6.30pm. Theatre FEBRUARY 14 – 16 Unforgettable – A Concert by Nico Darmanin Popular Maltese tenor Nico Darmanin will perform in an unforgettable swing, jazz and big band concert this month. Darmanin will be holding his first-ever big band swing con- cert in Malta next February – just in time for Malta's swing- music lovers to enjoy a truly unforgettable Valentine's Day. In his one-weekend-only Un- forgettable concert on 14, 15 and 16 February, Nico will be performing swing, jazz and big band classics inside the magnificent Grand Salon at the National Museum of Archaeology. Accompanied by live music from the Big Band Brothers, and featuring singer Jasmine Abela, Nico's Unforgettable concert will include classic songs immor- talised by artists from the golden age of music includ- ing Mario Lanza, Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra, in a genre that emulates the pure romance of the season of love at the National Museum of Archaeology, Valletta. Professional actors Marco Michel from Switzerland, Cody Hively from New York, Mark Windsor from the UK and Martin Szekely from Hungary have now joined local performers Jamie Car- dona, Clayton Mallia and Rambert Attard in Malta, as well as top local director Ste- phen Oliver, to bring Agnes Moon's feel-good romantic comedy to life. The Acro- bat (Blood Ties) by Unifaun Theatre Productions will be performed from 9 to 24 Feb- ruary 2019 at Spazju Kreattiv in Valletta. Tickets are available by visiting www.kreattivita.org FEBRUARY 8 – 24 Cats, The Musical Hoi Polloi Theatre Pro- ductions is proud to present a new theatre spectacular of Andrew Lloyd Webber's world famous musical, CATS. CATS tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles who meet on one special night each year to celebrate who they are. During the Jellicle Ball we get to know about the special traits and secrets of our feline friends, as they invite us through this lyrical journey based on T.S. Eliot's 'Old Possum's Book of Prac- tical Cats' with some well- loved musical theatre classics including 'Memory' and 'The Magical Mr Mistoffelees'. This event signifies the first time the production will be live on stage in Malta and a comeback for the local pro- duction company on the oc- casion of their 15th anniver- sary. The musical will take place at the Valletta Campus Theatre VCT between Febru- ary 8 - 24. Music MARCH 4-10 Così fan Tutte Teatru Manoel is staging a brand new production of Mo- zart's opera Così fan Tutte on 4th, 6th, 8th and 10th March 2019. With Così fan Tutte, ossia La scuola degli amanti, the theatre concludes the brilliant opera trilogy of Le Nozze Di Figaro, produced in 2017, and Don Giovanni, pro- duced in 2018, resulting from the collaboration between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and librettist Lorenzo Da Pon- te. The first of them, Le Nozze di Figaro (was premiered in Vienna on 1 May 1786 while Don Giovanni's was in Prague on 29 October 1787. Così fan Tutte was to follow with a pre- miere in Vienna on 26 January 1790. This production is sup- ported by Bank of Valletta. There are discounted tickets for those attending the opera. Booking is from www.teatru- manoel.com.mt, telephone 2124 6389. APRIL 12 Gianni Morandi Concert Gianni Morandi will be singing live at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Cen- tre in Tà Qali on April 12. The show will feature more than 40 tracks from Mo- randi's repertoire forming a playlist that would retrace the fundamental stages of his 60-year career. They include Occhi di ragazza, Scende la pioggia, La fisarmonica, Non son degno di te, Uno su mille, Dobbiamo fare luce, and Una vita che ti sogno. These last two tracks are part of Mo- randi's 40th album D'Amore e D'Autore, in which Moran- di interprets songs of love. The show starts at 9.30pm. EXHIBITIONS UNTIL FEBRUARY 28 The Immortals of a City The Immortals of a City showcases 51 selected pho- tos from the vast quantity of works, these photos are not objective records of the sculptures, but rather stun- ning reinventions inspired by lots of reading and ref lection on historical documents. The exhibition seeks to convey the inf luence and charm of European public artworks, by representing sculptures of European cities through photography, offering visi- tors an extraordinary taste of glimpses captured in these European cities, and inviting one to ref lect on life and mo- ments of history while pro- gressing toward the future. It has been exhibited in Beijing, Qingdao, Tianjin and other places in China, meeting with profound appreciation and interest in the historical, cultural and exotic diversity of the urban carvings, espe- cially by many who have nev- er been to Europe. FEBRUARY 1 – MARCH 23 Rosella Biscotti Exhibition Blitz is pleased to an- nounce the opening of a solo show by internationally ac- claimed artist Rossella Bis- cotti (Molfetta, 1978; live in Brussels and Berlin). The ex- hibition portrays the artist's practice with a selection of her key artworks along with a work in progress, her most ambitious to date, originally presented at Van Abbemuse- um in Eindhoven (2016) and intended to be produced in Malta over the coming year.
