19 COMMERCIAL maltatoday | SUNDAY • 24 MARCH 2019 DOMINO'S, the world-re- nowned pizza delivery experts, have successfully opened the doors to the 16,000th store as of Monday 4 March, 2019 in Cheektowaga, New York. To commemorate such a remark- able milestone, Domino's pre- sented a $16,000 donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Founda- tion during the inauguration ceremony. Domino's Pizza success story traces its origins back to 1960, when the two Monagham brothers purchased a store in Ypsilanti, Michigan named 'DomiNicks' pizza. In the years that followed, the own- ers adopted a long-term strat- egy of constant improvement, innovation and customer sat- isfaction; a philosophy still ad- hered to within the franchise today. In time, the efforts uphold- ing these principles continu- ally paid off for the American company allowing the fran- chise to expand its borders, opening stores all around America and internationally. On 4 September 2017 Dom- ino's arrived on the Maltese Islands. The secret ingredient to Domino's success has been the franchise's capability to identify new technological op- portunities within the market that set them apart from the competition. In the US alone, Domino's generate over 65% of sales through digital chan- nel. As a franchise, Domino's have developed several inno- vative menu-ordering plat- forms in order to simplify and streamline communication whilst maintaining their cost- effectiveness. Based on retail sales, the American franchise has become the largest pizza company in the world. Striving to continue on their success, over the last five years, the pizza chain has doubled down and grown by nearly 50%, shattering a mul- titude of company records. However, with these record numbers in hand, the fran- chise by no means intend to put their foot on the brake pedal and in fact they have announced another major American expansion, with plans to add another 2,350 stores in the United States alone by 2028. In order to achieve this future goal, Domino's are expected to make an investment of be- tween $115 million and $120 million, presenting a unique opportunity for individuals who are keen on the brand. Domino's open 16,000th store Domino's 16,000th store RENAULT has topped the 200,000 mark for sales of elec- tric vehicles in Europe. At the same time, it has crossed a symbolic milestone in France with 100,000 vehicles regis- tered. This double achieve- ment underlines Renault's po- sition as leader in the European electric vehicle market, with a steady growth in sales. A pioneer in electric vehicles with a range launched in 2011, Renault continues to lead the European electric vehicle mar- ket for the fourth consecutive year. Almost one electric vehi- cle in every three on European roads is a Renault. In 2018, Renault sales of elec- tric vehicles in Europe surged by 36%, accelerating strongly in the second half-year to + 62%. In France, Renault holds a 56.8% share of the electric ve- hicle market, in both passenger cars and LCVs. "Today, we are proud to say that over 200,000 customers in Europe have chosen Renault to make electric driving part of their everyday lives! And of course, this is just a step on a far longer journey," Gilles Nor- mand, Senior Vice President, Electric Vehicles, Group Re- nault, said. "Our clearly stated aim for the past ten years has been to make electric mobility avail- able to everybody. Groupe Re- nault's ambition is for electric vehicles to account for 10% of sales by 2022. To achieve this, it will build on the eight elec- tric vehicles that will make up the range by this date," he said. A complete, versatile range The reasons for this success? The most complete, versatile electric range on the market, made up of ZOE, Kangoo Z.E., Master Z.E. and the Twizy quadricycle. The range receives continu- ous upgrades with, for example, increased range, more power- ful motors or faster charging. It is built around two best-sell- ers: the city car ZOE and the Kangoo Z.E. van. The Renault ZOE remains the undisputed standard-setter on the market with 40,000 registrations last year, of which 18,000 in France. Building on six years of market success, it continues to appeal to buyers with an attractive design and a real range of 186 miles*. Kangoo Z.E. is Europe's un- disputed leader in electric LCV sales, with a market share of 51.5% in 2018. Electric vehicles built in France In June 2018, Groupe Renault announced plans to invest over one billion euros in France, now a centre of excellence for electric vehicles within the Alliance. By 2022, the Group plans to: • Introduce a new Alliance electric platform at Douai to create a second Renault elec- tric vehicle production site • Double Renault ZOE pro- duction capacity and launch new ZOE at Flins, the only ZOE production site in the world • Triple electric motor pro- duction capacities at Cleon and introduce a new-generation electric motor from 2021 • Invest in Maubeuge for the production of the next genera- tion of the Kangoo family, in- cluding the electric LCV Kan- goo Z.E.
