6 THEATRE APRIL 26-28 Glitter Punch A critically-acclaimed play about first love that has already taken the British theatre world by storm will soon have its Mal- ta debut at the Blue Box Theatre. Glitter Punch by Lucy Burke is a gritty, coming-of-age drama, which tells the story of the two young protagonists Molly and John as they meet, start a trou- bled relationship, and embark on a journey of forbidden love that will change their lives for- ever. For its Malta debut, Glit- ter Punch is produced by local theatre company Masquerade Malta and will feature up-and- coming performers Gianni Selvaggi and Monique Dimech Genuis for three shows only, at the Blue Box Theatre inside M Space in Msida from 26 to 28 April 2019. More information may be found online at www. masquerademalta.com APRIL 28 The Malta Cultural Institute Concert During this Concert the MCI will be presenting the danc- ers from Brigitte Gauci Borda School of Dance, who will be performing excerpts from Clas- sical Ballets including Swan Lake, Le Corsaire, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, Giselle, Paquita and Little Humpbacked Horse. They will also be pre- senting dances from the Hip Hop repertoire. The second part of the evening will feature the Santa Maria Accordion Band under the direction of Marthese Busuttil Cassar. They will be playing a variety of music from the films and the musicals. They will be joined by singers Miriam Camilleri and Charles Axiak. The MCI Painting Exhibition for April will feature works by Matthew Cassar. More infor- mation about this concert may be obtained by phoning the MCI Director on Tel: 21338923 or Mob: 99800409, or by send- ing an email to maltacultinst@ gmail.com APRIL 25-28 MAY 2-5 Measure For Measure: Strait Street Shakespeare William Shakespeare's dark satire of lust, power and cor- ruption comes to Strait Street's favourite abandoned brothel in a fresh take by the team behind the beloved Shakespeare at the Pub trilogy, with six actors in multiple roles, a bit of music, a dash of burlesque, and contin- ued easy access to booze, be- cause honestly we never learn. Only 50 tickets will be sold each night so booking early is highly recommended. Performances will take place on April 25, 26, 27 and 28, and May 2, 3, 4 and 5 at 8pm. MAY 10-11 Perfume – Moveo Dance Company Get lost in the scent, obsession & passion of PERFUME a con- temporary dance performance by the award winning Moveo Dance company, based on Pat- rick Suskind's novel of the same name. Set in a world that ex- plores the emotional connec- tion between different smells and the emotions they bring, PERFUME enchants with irre- sistible seduction and compel- ling movement. This haunting performance is brought to life by Choreographer and Artistic Director Dorian Mallia to an original score by Albert Garcia. MUSIC MAY 3 -5 Beland Music Festival The eighth edition of the Be- land Music Festivalwill be be- tween Friday 3rd and Sunday 5th May this year. Zejtun will host a number of local artists for this festival, including sev- eral promising and upcoming bands, artists and musicians who opt to apply through the 'Beland Music Contest' which is to be announced soon. MAY 5 Live Concert in aid of Richmond Foundation Renowned singer Kurt Calleja will be live in concert on 5 May at Aria, in aid of Richmond foundation. Calleja stated that Richmond Foundation was close to his heart as he has seen the work of this Foundation transform the life of persons going through mental health problems and helping them to have a successful life. MAY 3 – JUNE 8 Bir Miftuh International Music Festival Once again with spring comes the pleasure of the Bir Miftuħ International Music Festival, one of the highlights of the Maltese music calendar. Events will be spread over May and June and will include the likes of a Harp and Soprano Recital by Silke Aichhorn and Christín Enke-Mollnar, 'Concert for Eu- rope' featuring a String Quar- tet from The RE: Orchestra, formerly known as the Rotter- dam Ensemble and A Violon- cello and Piano Recital by 'The Modern Cello - Piano Duo'. Split into two parts, the first half of the show sees Bruce taking a humorous, often satirical look back at his colourful, roller-coaster life. JULY 15 – 20 Malta Jazz Festival The 29th annual Malta Jazz Festival will be held from July 15 to July 20 this summer. The highlights for this year's programme are Kenny Gar- rett, one of the world's most renowned saxophone players, Jazzmeia Horn one of the most important jazz vocalists, who was nominated for a grammy last year, Ozmosys featuring legendary jazz drummer Omar Hakim, one of the most ver- satile eclectic jazz drummers who has collaborated with Miles Davis, Dire Straits, Daft Punk and David Bowie, and for the second time Chucho Val- dés – the Cuban jazz legend, sixtime Grammy Award win- ner, who will all be performing on the Main Stage at Ta' Liesse in Valletta. EXHIBITIONS APRIL 26 – MAY 26 Julinu's Radioactive Ravioli Award-winning artist-illus- trator Julian Mallia, also known as Julinu, will soon present his first solo painting exhibition that promises to offer alterna- tive visual interpretations of familiar notions and elements from pop culture. The exhibi- tion, named Julinu's Radioac- tive Ravioli, features a collec- tion of 17 realistically-executed oil paintings, which utilise the artist's signature graphic wit, atmospheric surrealism and meticulously-executed visual ideas to present a different take on reality. Curated by Justine Balzan Demajo and Francois Zammit, Julinu's Radioac- tive Ravioli is supported by a Malta Arts Fund Project Sup- port Grant from Arts Council Malta and by Vee Gee Bee Art, San Gwann.
