maltatoday | SUNDAY • 13 OCTOBER 2019 17 TRAVEL PRAGUE is a well-preserved me- dieval city with a rich history, large parks, lots of nightlife, and a hint of romance… a wonderful city to visit all year round: warm and lovely during the summer and snowy and magical during the winter. Ready to experience the Czech capi- tal? Here are some of our favourite ways to enjoy Prague. Visit the John Lennon Wall During the 1980s, John Lennon be- came the symbol for all Czech anti- government protestors and what was once a normal wall in the neigh- bourhood of Kamba, has been filled with John Lennon-inspired graffiti and pieces of lyrics from Beatles' songs. It now represents love and peace and tourists are allowed to write or paint on it too. Explore the Jewish Quarter Formerly a walled ghetto, the Jewish Quarter holds many of Prague's im- portant sights and attractions. Syna- gogues and spectacular buildings lay side-by-side with statues and cemeter- ies, honouring the history of what was one of the largest Jewish communities in Europe. Whilst exploring the Jew- ish Quarter, make it a point to visit the Old Jewish Cemetery, one of the oldest still existing Jewish burial sites in the world as well as the Maisel Synagogue, which was rebuilt several times after its erection in 1592. It hosts a perma- nent exhibition about the history of the Jews in the Bohemian Lands, in- cluding historical objects, explanation panels and a virtual tour of the old Prague. A visit to the Clementinum The Clementinum in Prague is the largest and most historic complex of buildings in the Old Town, which was founded when the Jesuits arrived in Bohemia in 1556 and designed it as a college for the Jesuit order and for a long time it housed the Charles Uni- versity. It now houses the national li- brary. With its five inner courtyards and two churches, the Clementinum is a self-contained world in itself, out- side of space and time. A night at the Prague Beer Museum Prague's beer is one of the best in Eu- rope, and is available in many different varieties. Refresh yourself and your knowledge about the history of beer in the Czech Republic in this spacious pub. Opt for a tasting experience, with more than 30 beers on tap, including lights, darks, IPAs and just about eve- rything else. All you have to do is answer the question and send in your name, mobile number and email address to: Maltatoday competition, Air Malta plc, Sky Parks, Malta International Airport, Luqa, LQA 4000.
