Get set to channel your 1970s disco vibe at Malta's fa- vourite party destination, in a one-night-only event that will feature the world-famous Bee Gees tribute band, the Satur- day Night Bee Gees. Please note that, for licensing reasons, Gianpula Main Room operates a strict 'no under 17' policy. 14 NOVEMBER Operetta Highlights Bulgarian-born soprano An- driana Yordanova will grace the Refectory at Palazzo Fal- son to sing vivacious excerpts from some of the well-loved operettas that are entertaining, satirical and witty. She will be singing delightful arias from the famous operettas 'Giuditta', 'The Merry Widow' and 'Pa- ganini' all written by the com- poser Franz Lehár and other wonderful songs by celebrat- ed composers such as Rich- ard Straus and Robert Stolz, amongst others. Andriana Yor- danova will be accompanied by cellist Lucie Kucharova and violinist Philipp Orlov. The re- cital will be held on Thursday 14th November at 6.30pm. En- trance to the concert is at a sug- gested donation of 10 euro and patrons are invited to visit the museum at a discounted price. The Festival celebrates the wonder of books through a wide programme of family-friendly activities – in- cluding book launches and presentations, poetry and lit- erature readings, meetings with authors, dramatisations of lit- erary texts, and conferences and seminars. The festival also offers extensive networking opportunities for profession- als in the book world. This year round, one of the highlights of the festival is the opening conference revolving around the literary genres of sci-fi and fantasy. The conference will be led by a number of local and overseas authors. Among them is Loranne Vella, the Brussels based author of Rokit (Mer- lin Publishers) and winner of the 2018 National Book Prize. The festival will take place at the Mediterranean Conference Centre. The selection has a nice balance of new Maltese works together with some of the best touring shows, including five commissions by foremost lo- cal artists, five co-productions with national public cultural organisations, and no less than eleven international projects from around the globe. The 2019 Festival programme ini- tiatives vary from a brand new promenade music theatre show which will also tour schools, to a daring contemporary circus act, award-winning films, an opera with loads of humour, a re-adaptation of an iconic literature classic, and a num- ber of outdoor happenings. This year's edition, featuring a strong environmental mes- sage for young and old, prom- ises to enchant children as well as those young at heart. Theatre 1-3 NOVEMBER Appuntamenti Appuntamenti, which won first prize in the National Fran- cis Ebejer playwriting competi- tion in 2009, is an original play in Maltese written by Simone Spiteri. The play is being re- staged for its 10th year anniver- sary. The event takes place at the Splendid Theatre in Vallet- ta.
