18 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 17 NOVEMBER 2019 COMMERCIAL AS part of Atlas Group's month-long initiative to pro- mote mental health aware- ness, the company organised an information session for its employees who are also par- ents which focused on building emotional resilience and regu- lation in children. This interactive session, pre- sented by Professor Angela Ab- ela, covered a range of emotions present in children of all ages. She also explained how parents can tackle and regulate these emotions in their children, as well as outlined emotional is- sues parents face on a daily ba- sis as well as the possible solu- tions. Abela invited participants to share their own experiences with their own children and ask questions. Research shows that children, like adults, are capable of work- ing through challenges and coping with life's challenges and issues. Through resilience, which they learn to develop as they grow, children can bounce back from various issues in life like stress, adversity, failure, challenges, bullying and cy- berbullying, and even traumas. Resilience helps kids nagivate through such situations and aids them in taking healthy risks. Angela Abela is a professor at the Department of Family Stud- ies at the University of Malta, a clinical psychologist, a UKCP registered family therapist and a supervisor. Currently Ab- ela chairs the National Centre for Family Research within the President's Foundation for the Well-being of Society. She also serves as a consultant in the area of children and families for government and the Standing Committees on Social Affairs and on Family Affairs in Parlia- ment. This session formed part of a month long initiative to promote mental health aware- ness at Atlas. The initiatives in- cluded Atlas Healthcare's focus on well-being during the recent FHRD conference, as well as a dress-down October to promote mental health awareness cou- pled with mental health badges which employees sported dur- ing the month. Parents working at Atlas learn about emotional resilience in children Atlas employees together with Angela Abela SINTEGRAM, an EU project, financed by the European Re- gional Development Fund, is a foundation project that has rev- olutionised data as we know it: from 2D, it is converting Malta in 3D, Virtual Reality, Aug- mented Reality and now Mixed Reality. From a situation where data has been hoarded and recap- tured without any collective effort and which rendered a situation where redundancy and duplication was the norm, in came the concept that be- came SIntegraM, with inte- gration in mind. From a situation where each entity was isolated, through the project, spatial data can be gathered, cleaned, analysed, uploaded and exchanged with all parties. And all this through an easy to use web- portal that can be accessed in offices, on the move and wher- ever one requires the same in- formation. What SIntegraM did is to break the mould of over reli- ance on old data, bring the state up to scratch, offer a common platform, bring all maps into real space and dis- seminate them to all. Interesting point there: bringing maps into real space... that is the convert- ing of all spatial data from a space that does not exists to the real-world space that your google map, TomTom, Sygic and other apps can read. Until a few weeks ago most Maltese maps were driven by a decision taken in the 80s to save money on hard-disk space, a valid decision at the time to the high cost of stor- age media but which resulted in a situation where our data was found 200km south of Ghana... SIntegraM has recti- fied this through a free soft- ware that bring our maps back and we can carry out analysis over space and time. Thus, capturing reality through recalibrating archival data, geo-referencing recent information and placing them in a structure where each en- tity's data could speak to each other, was critical. You can now read data on your mobile that allows you to add information in-situ, mark trees that are growing, report trash dumping, mark jellyfish occurrence, watch your street in 3D. All this through SInte- graM web-portal. This benefits society as we can take a snapshot of our environment, travel within it, review the changes that would occur if a change is affected such as constructing a dam in a valley, understand sea level rise, visit the Hypogeum and a myriad other possibilities. Why have over 40 entities, led by the Planning Authority come together to integrate in- formation? The use of data is paramount and the links that SIntegraM has created go be- yond that envisaged during the project drafting that went beyond state of the art. The collaboration of entities will help to enhance the social well-being as the network cre- ated and the training rendered has placed SIntegraM as a forerunner to future research and policy-making. Coming to terms with reality: the recalibration of maps and spatial information BURGER King® Malta has finally an- nounced that the sandwich we have all been waiting for, the Rebel Whopper®, has landed in Malta. With 25 countries simultaneously launching the Rebel Whopper® in over 2,500 restaurants, this will be one of the largest Burger King® launch in the brand's history and Burger King® will become the biggest restaurant chain offering a plant-based patty across Eu- rope. Successful launches in the USA and Sweden have left burger fans across Europe calling for the accessible plant- based patty alternative, offering an- other way to enjoy the great taste you would expect from a Whopper®, but with a plant-based patty. The latest sandwich to join the royal line-up consists of a juicy, flame-grilled, plant-based patty, topped with freshly sliced tomatoes, fresh lettuce, creamy mayonnaise, ketchup, crunchy pickles, and sliced white onions on a toasted sesame seed bun. The patties, cooked on Burger King® signature broiler, have all the flame- grilled goodness you know and love from the makers of the iconic Whop- per. The Rebel Whopper® has been in de- velopment for some time, with Burger King® enlisting plant-based heavy- weight, The Vegetarian Butcher, to provide the all-important patty. The two brands have come together to cre- ate a product that may well change the QSR industry forever. David Shear, President of Burger King®, commented: "We are confi- dent that the Rebel Whopper® is the sandwich everyone has been waiting for and provides the ultimate plant- based patty alternative with the iconic Whopper build. I'm excited to let the Rebel Whopper® do the talking and see whether our guests can tell the differ- ence!" Jaap Korteweg, Founder of The Veg- etarian Butcher said: "Working with Burger King® on the Rebel Whopper® has been amazing, and we can't wait for all Burger King® guests to enjoy it." This new addition to the menu will bolster Burger King® plant-based alter- natives and sit alongside Burger King® iconic offerings, such as the flame- grilled Whopper, as either an alterna- tive or an accompaniment. The Rebel Whopper® will be available in all Burger King® restaurants in Malta. The Burger King® brand is operated in Malta by Food Chain Limited, a mem- ber of the Farsons Group. Burger King® restaurants are situated in Valletta, Paceville, Sliema, Mosta, the Malta In- ternational Airport and Qormi.
