Q att smajt b'Ryan Hreljac, it-tifel Kanadiż, illum żagħżugħ, li ilu 12 il-sena jagħmel ħiltu biex tfal bħalu fl-Afrika jkollhom il-bjar ta' ilma nadif, li rebaħ il-premju tal-Ġnus Magħquda għat-tfal li jħabirku għal tfal sħabhom, premju li jinkludi borża ta' stud- ju li tqum 15,000 dollaru Amerikan? Beda fl-1998 Ryan beda l-ħidma b'risq it-tfal Afrikani fl-1998 meta kellu 6 snin. Minn dakinhar Ryan ġabar mijiet ta' eluf ta'dollari Kanadiżi biex ighin lin-nies Afrikani li ma kellhomx ilma nadif u għalhekk kienu jimirdu u anke jmutu. Dan għamlu jdur id-dinja jagħmel pubbliċita'għall-proġett tiegħu. Mar il- Ġappun, iċ-Ċina, l-Italja, il-Kalifornja, New York, Ohio. Id-dar fejn mormalment igħix qegħda qrib Ottawa fejn igħix mal-ġenituri tiegħu Mark u Susan flimkien ma' tliet ħutu subien Nofs il-ħin tiegħu Ryan igħaddih idur l-iskejjel u jiltaqa' ma' gruppi u n-nofs l-ieħor imur l-iskola jagħmel il-'homework' u jieħu sehem fl-isport. Qabel ma jitlaq għal dawra twila jittallab il-flus għat-taħfir tal-bjar, Ryan imur għand l-għalliema tiegħu u jgħidilhom 'Jiena se nkun nieqes mill-iskola ġimgħatejn. X'nista nagħmel meta ma nkunx l-iskola?' U l-għalliema jagħtuħ x'jaqra u jagħmel bħala 'homework' u dan jagħmlu fuq l-ajruplan, fil-vjaġġi bil-karozza, fil-kamra tal-lukanda u f 'ħin ieħor liberu. Ryan sab ħafna għajnuna mill-għalliema tiegħu imma hu ma joqgħodx iparla ma' sħabu tal-klassi u jiaħar x'inhu jaghmel. It-tfal sħabu jgħinuħ billi jtuħ il-flus imma magħhom igħix ħajja normali, jilagħbu flimkien u jidħku ħafna kuljum! Ġrajja li ferħitu Kien hemm ġrajja li l-iżjed ferrħitu. Meta mar l-Uganda ltaqa' ma tifel Ugandiż jismu Jimmy li kitiblu ittra u bl-ittri tagħhom saru ħbieb tal-qalba. Dan Jimmy spiċċa tela' l-Kanada u mar igħix mal-familja ta' Ryan, bħallikieku wiehed minn ħutu. Dan Jimmy għandu storja impressjonanti. Darba safa maħtuf minn membri ta' grupp vjolenti imsejjaħ Lord's Resistance Army fl-Uganda u dawn riduħ jieħu sehem fil-ġlied magħhom imma hu rnexxielu jaħrab u jasal fil-Kanada bħala refuġjat f 'Settembru 2003. Fil-Kanada Jimmy kellu ċans iħaddem it-talenti tiegħu fl-iskola u tgħidx kemm hu l-ħin kollu ferħan u dejjem jitbissem u jħobb ħafna lil Jordan, u lil Keegan, l-iżgħar fost l-ahwa ta' Ryan! Missier Ryan, Mark , huwa uffiċjal tal- puliżja u ommu , Susan hija konsulenta imma tgħidx kemm ikollha tieħu 'leave' biex tkun tista' tmexxi l-fondażżjoni ta' binha Ryan, ir-Ryan's Well Foundation. Ryan tgħidx kemm jirċievi għajnuna mill-ġenituri u minn ħutu biex jirnexxilu jiġbor il-flus meħtieġa ħalli jsarraom fi bjar ta' ilma nadif ghall-Afrikani. Ryan huwa Kattoliku u għalih Alla huwa importanti ħafna għax kollox ġej minnu. U Ryan jieħu ħsieb jagħtih qima kuljum. Messaġġ ta' Ryan Ryan għandu messaġġ għat-tfal u żgħażagħ bħalu: ''Nixtieq ngħid lil kull wieħed u waħda li huma jistgħu jagħmlu kull ma jixtiequ. Jekk trid issir President, int tista' ssir President, Ma jgħoddx min inti. Jekk tikkonċentra fuq il-ħolm tieghek u tagħmel ħiltek tabilħaqq, tista' tagħmel kollox. Tista' tagħmel kollox, basta tagħmlu bis-serjeta,'' Ryan apprezza l-borża ta studju li rebaħ mingħand il-Ġnus Maqgħuda: ''Dal-premju se jkun ta' siwi kbir għalija għax se jgħinni biex insir enġinier ta' l-ilma, għax dak irrid nagħmel meta nikber- nagħmilha iżjed ħaġa żgura li kulħadd ikollu aċċess għal ilma nadif. Imma għadni ma nafx fejn ser immur nistudja'' 22 opinjoni It-tifel Kanadiż li ħabrek għat-tħaffir ta' bjar b'ilma nadif fl-Afrika IL-ĦADD 3 TA' MEJJU 2020 • illum Dun Anġ Seychell huwa l-fundatur ta' Dar Nazareth Today 100 best recipes Today 100 best recipes FOOD Saying it aS it iS SAVIOUR BALZAN Volume I In volume 1 of 'Saying it as it is', Saviour Balzan tells the story of his journey from being an active environmentalist, to becoming a teacher, a politician, a journalist and finally, the owner of a media house. In his uncouth and abrasive style, he speaks frankly about the thankless job of being an investigative reporter and what running a media house truly entails. But perhaps more interesting, however, are the anecdotes and inside stories also embedded in the narrative, which pick up on key happenings over the past few years. The book also has a semi-autobiographical streak, as Balzan reminisces over the incidents that ended up having an effect on his writings. He uncovers the political networks and the friends and foes of the politicians who dominated the Maltese political scene for the past 35 years. Zoning in on events which he believes left a lasting impact on readers, Balzan expands on the background behind important news stories. In 'Saying it as it is', what emerges most clearly is that scandals have no political boundaries. Saviour Balzan takes us through a brief journey of his journalistic work. He also underscores the influence of politics and politicians in Malta, and the challenges of independent journalism. MediaToday Co. Ltd. Vjal ir-Rihan, San Gwann. However, these are only one stage in their life cycle aer having spent a much longer period living under water as larvae. Most species of dragonflies and damselflies are highly habitat specific in both their larval and adult stages. e Maltese Islands lack most types of riparian habitats and as a result the number of species found locally is very small. is is compensated for by the high concentration of these insects at most water bodies. is book describes each of the nineteen species recorded in the Maltese Islands and each species is amply illustrated by photographs which, for the commoner species, illustrate most or all the stages in their life cycle. It is hoped that besides being of help and interest to nature lovers, it will also raise a much needed awareness among the general public about biodiversity and nature conservation,. e author spent fourteen years teaching Integrated Science and Biology at secondary State schools before moving to the Għadira Nature Reserve where he was Managing Warden until his retirement twenty four years later. He has been interested in dragonflies for the last ten years. Having been an avid bird watcher since his early teens, he co-authored a number of ornithological books – Bird Studies on Filfla, L-Agħsafar, A Guide to the Birds of Malta, A New Guide to the Birds of Malta and e Breeding Birds of Malta. He also co-authored several ornithological papers and was the editor of BirdLife Malta's scientific journal 'il- Merill' from 1986 to 1994. Since his initial interest in dragonflies in 2008 he has been so fascinated by these wonderful insects to the extent that they now oen take precedence over birds.
