3 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 9 NOVEMBER 2025 ART Intaglio exhibition opens at the Malta Society of Arts Titled iMprint 7, the show forms part of a long-running series organised by the association ArtiGraf ika, dedicated to showcasing and promoting the art of printmaking in Malta IMPRINT 7: Contemporary Intaglio is a group exhibition featuring more than 50 intag- lio works by 30 Maltese and international artists, including renowned contemporary artist Caesar Attard. The exhibition is currently open at the Malta So- ciety of Arts, Valletta, and will remain on view until 20 Novem- ber 2025. The exhibition forms part of an ongoing initiative spearheaded by Jesmond Vassallo, Lino Borg and Justin Falzon – three artists and educators who continue to champion the art of printmaking and its contemporary relevance. Since its launch in 2013, iM- print has become a biennial event eagerly anticipated by both artists and audiences, as it remains Malta's only exhibition exclusively dedicated to origi- nal artistic prints by some of the finest Maltese and international printmakers. This year's edition, titled Con- temporary Intaglio, is curated by art historian and curator Chris- tian Attard. It presents a diverse selection of intaglio prints, in- cluding a special focus on 20 works by Caesar Attard, which together form the two complete series Life and Passion. The ex- hibition also features works by members of ArtiGrafika, further reflecting the vibrant printmak- ing community in Malta. iMprint 7 also marks the second collaboration with the Swedish Embassy in Malta and the Swed- ish Printmakers Association (Grafiska Sällskapet), founded in 1910, continuing to foster inter- national artistic exchange. What unites the participat- ing artists is their commitment to experimenting with original printmaking, specifically within the intaglio tradition, exploring a range of techniques including aquatint, hard-ground etching, mezzotint, sugar-lift, spit bite and dry-point. One of the key advantages of this medium is that it allows artists to produce limited editions, making original art more accessible to collectors and the public alike. Each print is hand-pulled, signed and num- bered, affirming its status as an original work of art. "The iMprint series contin- ues to play a crucial role in pre- serving and revitalising Malta's printmaking heritage, opening new pathways for engagement, collaboration, and artistic ex- change," affirms Roderick Camilleri, Acting President of the Malta Society of Arts. "Con- temporary Intaglio exemplifies the vitality and innovation that define this medium, revealing its enduring relevance within contemporary art practice. The MSA is proud to host such a col- lective, which not only celebrates technical mastery and creative experimentation but also pro- motes broader appreciation and awareness of the beauty, depth, and legacy inherent in the print- making tradition." Through the iMprint series, the Malta Society of Arts cele- brates ArtiGrafika's dedication to keeping printmaking alive and dynamic, a collaboration that continues to strengthen artistic excellence and cultural exchange in Malta. iMprint 7 can be visited at the Malta Society of Arts, 219 Re- public Street, Valletta until 20 November 2025, from Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm, and Sat- urdays 9am to 1pm. Entrance is free. For more details about the exhibition please visit www. artsmalta.org or www.face- book.com/maltasocietyofarts.
