The Minister added, "this is not just a project, it is a breath of fresh air for the Gozitan produc- er and a more secure future for our local product." He also noted that he wanted to see it reopened after the PN had closed the doors of the vegetable market on Gozo, as it had done previously with the agriculture school. "Today we reaffirm our com- mitment to strengthening agri- culture, fisheries and animal wel- fare in our country," Refalo said. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday evening, he con- firmed that preparations for de- signs and the calculation of re- quired investment estimates are underway, although no proposed location for the Pitkalija was re- vealed. Last May it was announced that the Food Agency, under the Ministry for Agriculture, would provide a free transport service for Gozitan farmers, deliver- ing their agricultural products to Malta. The service operates twice a week to meet current de- mand. He added that "the structures will be ready in time for the up- coming summer season." The Minister was responding to a Parliamentary Question sub- mitted by Opposition Spokes- person for Gozo Chris Said, who asked when work on the new facilities would begin. Said also requested information on the estimated cost and whether the necessary permits and calls for works had been issued, questions which were not answered. In September, Bonett had stated that "preparations and processes required were being carried out to finalise the works that will lead to the necessary in- terventions at the fast ferry ter- minal."
