7 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 16 JANUARY 2026 NEWS RESIDENTIAL property sales activity in Gozo remained com- paratively low in December 2025, official statistics show, even as Malta's overall housing market continued to register increased transactions. According to provisional da- ta from the National Statistics Office, a total of 141 final deeds of sale involving residential property were registered in the Gozo and Comino district in December 2025. This was the lowest total recorded among Malta's statistical regions for the month. Over the whole of Malta, 1,173 final deeds of sale were registered, a 5.1 per cent increase compared with De- cember 2024. The value of all deeds regis- tered in Malta reached €389.2 million in December 2025, up 6.9 per cent on the same month last year, according to the NSO release. Households accounted for the majority of transactions na- tionally, with 1,041 of the deeds involving individual buyers, or about 88.7 per cent of total sales recorded in December. Promise of sale agreements, which signal future transac- tions, also remained relatively low in Gozo compared with other districts. The Gozo and Comino district recorded 149 promise of sale agreements in December 2025, the smallest figure among the statistical re- gions for this measure. Across Malta, 1,361 such agreements were registered, marking a sharp increase of 30.4 per cent compared with December 2024. Elsewhere in Malta, the Northern Harbour and North- ern districts reported the high- est levels of activity for both final deeds and promise of sale agreements in December 2025. Analysts say lower activity levels in the Gozo region com- pared with the main island may reflect a smaller market base and fewer listings, even as overall housing market activi- ty at the end of 2025 remained strong.
