9 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 6 FEBRUARY 2026 CULTURE Gozo Carnival expected to draw thousands to the island MINISTER for Gozo, Clint Camilleri, officially launched this year's edition of the Gozo Carnival, one of the island's most anticipated annual cultur- al events. The festival, a key oc- casion highlighting the unique spirit of the Gozitan communi- ty, is scheduled to open with the Carnival Parade on Saturday, 7 February at 7:30 p.m., and will continue with activities across Victoria and several villages around Gozo until 17 February 2026. Camilleri said, "The Gozo Carnival is a clear reflection of the cultural identity and cre- ativity of the Gozitan people. This event not only strengthens our traditions but continues to attract visitors while generating economic and social opportuni- ties for the island. As a Ministry, we remain committed to sup- porting everyone whose dedica- tion makes this event possible. Their efforts ensure a safe and well-organised environment for both residents and visitors." For five full days, Gozo trans- forms into a vibrant celebration of art, colour, and longstanding traditions. The regional festivi- ties, centred primarily in Victo- ria, showcase the talents of local carnival enthusiasts, who ex- press their creativity year after year through elaborate floats, costumes, and artistic perfor- mances. The Carnival repre- sents a fusion of centuries-old heritage with contemporary style, offering an unforgettable, family-friendly spectacle for all who choose to visit Gozo dur- ing this period. The spontaneous Nadur Car- nival, known for its distinct character and style, has also become an integral part of the annual celebrations. The re- nowned festival has grown into a major event offering a unique and distinctive experience. Its authentic spirit remains a ma- jor attraction in itself, enriching the overall Gozo Carnival expe- rience. The Gozo Carnival draws visi- tors not only from across Malta but also from around the world, uniting people in a rich celebra- tion of heritage, creativity, and performance.
