2 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 15 MARCH 2026 MUSIC KorMalta celebrates two sold-out concerts including Women's Day charity performance KORMALTA have had a satis- factory weekend of two sold out performances in March, which confirms the choir's connection with the general public. Faure's Requiem, on the 6th of March, proved to be a successful full house, with attendees show- ing their appreciation with a standing ovation. This was fol- lowed by another sold out per- formance for Her Story in Song, on the 8th of March, held in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation. Faure's Requiem brought to- gether KorMalta's Ensemble with guest musicians and re- nowned guest conductor Chris- topher Muscat. This concert was held at St Catherine of It- aly's Church in Valletta, which provided a beautiful ambience, complimenting the theme of the concert. This was the second performance from the lunch- time series of KorMalta Ensem- ble. The Women's Day concert, held at the Italian Cultural In- stitute in Valletta, celebrated the creativity and artistic contribu- tions of women across musical history. All proceeds from the event were donated to the Malta Community Chest Fund Foun- dation, highlighting KorMalta's commitment to support com- munity wellbeing through the power of song. Her Story in Song brought together the female voices of KorMalta, in a selected rep- ertoire honouring overlooked composers and musical pieces, while celebrating contemporary musical works by local and in- ternational women. Female ac- tresses from Teatru Malta also gave their contribution by recit- ing poems complimenting the singers' repertoire. Through this event, audiences were invited to reflect on women's voices in mu- sic and society, reinforcing their enduring strength. A New Chapter for KorMalta This year marks an important milestone for KorMalta: the first season in which the choir has launched its own dedicated pro- ductions. Building on its repu- tation as Malta's national choir, KorMalta has expanded its artis- tic vision with two distinct con- cert series — a lunchtime series featuring the full ensemble and an evening chamber-formation series — designed to promote choral music to wider and more varied audiences throughout the year. The launch models the choir's evolution from guest performer to an independent creative or- ganisation within Malta's cultur- al landscape. This demonstrates both artistic ambition and a renewed commitment to com- munity engagement, connecting audiences with music while sup- porting philanthropic causes. "We believe music brings peo- ple together and can make a real difference," says KorMal- ta's Principal Conductor, Ric- cardo Bianchi. "This concert celebrates the achievements of women, past and present, while also helping support our com- munity in a meaningful way." Tickets & Info: https://napa. mt/events/
