APRIL 22 @ 10:00 - 13:00 The Hitchcock Collection - Matisse, Picasso & Chagall Arthall Gozo 8, triq Agius de Soldanis, Il-Belt Victoria, Malta The late Ingeborg Mehren-Hitchcock is the central figure behind this remarkable collection of Modern Art. This exhibi- tion presents a curated selection of eight artworks—lithographs, etchings, and pochoirs—by some of the most influen- tial artists of Modernism: Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Marc Chagall. Ingeborg Mehren-Hitchcock (1926- 2026) carefully assembled an extraor- dinary body of work during the 1950's and 1960's—the flourishing period of Modernism in Paris and New York. The high value of these cornerstone pieces of Modern Art lies in the rarity of the selection, which exists outside stand- ard numbered editions. All works were created during the artists' lifetimes, and most include pencil signatures, referenc- es to special editions, and documented provenance. These highly coveted artworks embody a unique convergence of art and histo- ry. When art meets history, collectors become beacons of legacy—guardians of culture and vital links in a chain con- necting past and future. Often described as "bulletproof," such blue chip artworks retain their pedigree intact. Sunday 19th April, exhibition opening is held by reservation. What's happening in Gozo Did you know? Ta' Sannat lies in the south of the island of Gozo. The name is probably derived from that of an Arabic-Greek family that moved to Gozo from Sicily. Ta' Sannat is best known for the Ta' Cenc plateau on the edge of the village and its spectacular Ta' Cenc cliffs, the highest cliffs in Gozo. The plateau is typical Maltese garigue rich in flora and fuana. It is also the site of a number of prehistoric remains, including sparse remnants of L-Imramma Temple and three dolmens (made up of, a roughly shaped horizontal limestone slab supported on three sides by blocks of stone standing on end). The plateau overlooks the Hanżira valley, a natural gorge with steep rocky sides separating Ta' Sannat from the village of ix-Xewkija, of which there are excellent views. 2 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 17 APRIL 2026 EVENTS
