I L -Ħ A D D 3 T A ' M E J J U 2 0 2 6 From Beethoven to Contemporary Art: Another eventful weekend at Il-Hagar THE first, taking place this Friday 17 April at 7.30pm, consists of the first of a series of lecture-recitals organised by the Museum to com- memorate the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven's death in 1827. Devised, led and present- ed by Francis Camilleri, this series of 5 lecture-recitals spread over 2 years will focus on the eminent composer's 32 piano sonatas, of- fering insights into works that have become a staple of the piano repertoire. TAKING place at the Aula Mgr Giuseppe Farrugia, at the back of St George's Basilica, this first lec- ture-recital will serve as an intro- duction to the subject, discussing the context and selected examples that best exemplify Beethoven's developing style, from the early youthful sonatas to the late intro- spective works. The second event for the week- end, taking place on Saturday 18 April at 11.00am, is a walkthrough of the Harmony in Contrast ex- hibition at Il-Ħaġar, where a me- ticulously curated selection of paintings, etchings and sculptures is on temporary display. The ex- hibition explores the balance be- tween opposing elements such as light and shadow, form and void, and tradition and modernity. The session will be led by the artists themselves, Valerio Schembri and Paul Stellini.
