THE Prime Minister visited
the Gozo Football Associa-
tion (GFA) in Xewkija ahead of
the return of Maltese Premier
League matches to Gozo, sched-
uled as part of the Gozo Week-
ender.
The event is being held over
two weekends, with the first
already concluded and the sec-
ond set to take place on 18 and
19 April.
The visit included a meeting
with GFA committee members
and an interaction with un-
der-14 players training at the
Gozo Stadium.
The matches, which are be-
ing held in Gozo for the second
consecutive year, are organised
through collaboration between
the Ministry for Gozo and the
Malta Premier League.
During the visit, it was stated
that sport plays a key role in
the development of children
and young people, contributing
not only to competition but al-
so to discipline, teamwork and
physical and mental wellbeing.
Reference was also made to
ongoing investment in sports
infrastructure in Gozo, includ-
ing the opening of the Sports
and Aquatic Pavilion in Victo-
ria, upgrades to the Ta' Xħaj-
ma horse racing track and the
Għajn Mellel shooting range,
as well as improvements to
football facilities in collabora-
tion with the GFA.
The association, founded in
1936, runs two football divi-
sions and a number of compe-
titions, while also supporting
player development on the is-
land.
