Reflecting on the coin's cultural significance, the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, Rita Schembri said: "This commem- orative coin honours the Malta International Fireworks Festival and the artistry it represents-an enduring local tradition that en- hances Malta's tourism offering and its standing as a year-round cultural destination." The 25th anniversary edition of the Malta International Fireworks Festival has kicked off in Nadur, Gozo, on 18 April. The celebra- tions will then continue across the iconic Grand Harbour on 20 and 25 April, culminating in a grand finale on 30 April. This year's festival will feature approximately 40 local and inter- national fireworks teams, show- casing spectacular pyrotechnic displays that celebrate both tra- dition and innovation. The event continues to play a vital role in attracting visitors to the Maltese Islands outside the peak summer season. Surface Tensions SURFACE Tensions' is a solo exhibition by Liliya Cauchi that investigates ceramics as a site of transformation where mate- rial and cultural histories con- verge. Through experimental approaches to clay, firing, and glazing, the artist embraces rup- ture, erosion, and imperfection as generative forces within the process of making. Rather than concealing marks of change, the works foreground them, allow- ing surfaces to speak of time, pressure, and movement. The resulting forms evoke geological and archaeological traces, as a metaphor for erod- ed coastlines, weathered stone, and fragmented artefacts. Root- ed in the textures and material language of the Mediterranean, the works reflect on both the fragility and resilience of land- scapes shaped by natural forc- es and human presence. Subtle variations in colour and surface invite shifting encounters with light and contrast, echoing the region's spirit. Positioned between vessel and fragment, Liliya's ceramic art- works challenge fixed notions of function and form. They suggest objects in transition, neither complete nor broken, capable of holding memory, displacement, and renewal. Through this body of work, she proposes ceramics not only as a record of the past but as a dynamic medium for contemporary artistic expres- sion and a reflection on evolving cultural identities. Event Schedule: The opening is on the 11th of April at 7:00 pm The gallery will be open from 11th April to 1st of May from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Surface Tensions' is a solo exhibition by Liliya Cauchi that investigates ceramics as a site of transformation where material and cultural histories converge
