Nature Notebook SAVE Our Shores exhibition opening & press conference THIS exhibition emerged from a year of research and engagement with communities affected by the marina industry and the tourism it generates. Thus, it sheds light on the social and environmental reali- ties shaping our shores. The exhibition reinforces our message that our coastline is a pub- lic space that belongs to everyone, not a privilege reserved for the wealthy. Through research, photography, and storytelling, it invites visitors to reflect on the future of Malta's coast and the growing pres- sures it faces. We would like to thank Julian Delia for his research, Darren Zammit Lupi for the photographs, and 2.3 Studio for their work in bringing this exhibition to life. Supported by The Minor Foundation for Major Challenges. Green idea of the week 1024 Don't miss this Give nature a voice. Common kestrel AMONG the falcons that visit our rock, the common kestrel (M. spanjulett) is one of the more regular. We see it most often in spring and autumn as it migrates north or south between continents, but almost every spring one or two pairs also try to nest and raise a family, usually in a hole in a cliff. Now of course there's a bunch of men whose overriding thrill seems to be killing harmless things that don't fight back, so they go out looking for birds to shoot – just a couple of days ago two such criminals were spotted shooting at nesting kestrels down a sheer cliff face (and breaking a handful of laws, but see if they care!). No wonder every year BirdLife ends up with a sorry stream of injured kestrels (and other species), rescued by kind-hearted people who pass the birds on to us for care. Many die but thanks to our dedicated rehab team some kestrels are nursed back to health and released back into the wild. 5 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 7 JUNE 2026 ALMANAC Victor Falzon, Aron Tant (Photo) 12 June 2026 | 6:30PM - 8.30PM at Triton Square, Valletta Old Classic Car and Motor Show on 14 June at Chinese Garden, Triq Katerina Vitale, Santa Lucija, Malta
