4 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 10 JULY 2026 NEWS Man fighting for his life after tuk-tuk flips over in Gozo A 52-year-old man is in critical condition after he was involved in an accident while driving a tuk- tuk in Gozo. Police said the acci- dent happened at around 4:15pm in Triq tal-Kanal, Xewkija. Preliminary investigations sug- gest that the man, who lives in St Paul's Bay, lost control and flipped over. He was aided by a medical team before being taken to Gozo General Hospital. He was later certified as having sustained seri- ous injuries. Police investigations are still on- going. Gozo Business Chamber discusses economic diversification with MFSA THE Gozo Business Chamber has held talks with the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) on ways to diversify Gozo's economy and create new high-value economic opportuni- ties on the island. During a meeting held at the Chamber's offices on 30 June, representatives from both or- ganisations discussed the need to expand into sectors that cur- rently have a limited presence in Gozo, while identifying ar- eas where the island can offer a competitive and distinctive business proposition. The Chamber stressed the importance of strengthening the supporting services, skills base and wider business en- vironment needed to attract investment and sustain long- term growth. The meeting also served as an opportunity to exchange views as the MFSA prepares its forth- coming strategic priorities, with discussions focusing on how closer collaboration with local stakeholders could help develop new economic niches in Gozo. The Gozo Business Chamber said it looks forward to con- tinuing discussions with the financial regulator and con- tributing further input in the coming weeks. Public consultation on new National Agricultural Policy to be held in Gozo FARMERS, agricultural stake- holders and members of the public will have the opportunity to share their views on the pro- posed National Agricultural Pol- icy for 2027-2037 during a con- sultation meeting being held in Gozo this week. The Agriculture Ministry has announced that two public meetings will take place as part of the consultation process on the White Paper out- lining the policy proposals for the coming decade. The Gozo meeting will be held on Friday 10 July at the Gov- ernment Experimental Farm in Xewkija, between 5pm and 6:30pm. A second consultation meeting will take place in Malta on Thursday 9 July at St Ignati- us College Secondary School in Ħandaq. The Ministry said the meetings are intended to pro- vide a detailed explanation of the proposed measures and give the public an opportunity to con- tribute to the development of the National Agricultural Policy. The policy, covering the peri- od 2027-2037, aims to shape the future direction of Malta's agri- cultural sector by taking into ac- count the challenges and oppor- tunities facing farmers and rural communities. Members of the public wish- ing to attend the consultation meetings are encouraged to reg- ister their participation.
